A well-established, privately held U.S.-based fabrication company is seeking a proven Plant Manager to oversee operations at its flagship facility. The company is a trusted supplier of large, high-tolerance steel structures used in infrastructure, civil works, and transportation projects nationwide. It specializes in fabricating complex components for government, military, and public works clients under stringent quality, safety, and code requirements.

The Opportunity

This is a high-impact leadership role for a hands-on operator with deep experience in structural steel fabrication, particularly for hydraulic steel structures and bridge components. The Plant Manager will lead all aspects of shop operations, including production, safety, quality assurance, workforce development, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with executive leadership to drive operational excellence across high-spec projects.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Leadership

• Oversee daily production activities across welding, layout, machining, and finishing
• Lead planning and resource allocation to meet project schedules, quality standards, and budget constraints
• Maintain a strong presence on the shop floor and ensure alignment across shifts and teams
• Coordinate with project management to ensure production aligns with client and contract deliverables

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure full compliance with AWS D1.5 code and all relevant USACE and DOT standards for hydraulic steel structures and bridge fabrication
• Collaborate closely with the Fabrication Quality Control Manager to support inspections, documentation, and quality audits
• Drive a quality-first culture and proactively address non-conformance or fabrication issues
• Support NDT processes including Radiographic Testing (RT), Visual Inspection, and other methods as required

Team Development

• Supervise, coach, and develop skilled trades teams and production supervisors
• Evaluate performance, enforce accountability, and provide training or coaching as needed
• Support talent development and succession planning for key production roles

Process Improvement

• Analyze performance using KPIs across throughput, labor efficiency, quality, and delivery
• Lead initiatives to reduce waste, improve material handling, or increase production flexibility
• Recommend capital investments or technology upgrades that support strategic goals

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in fabrication quality control for hydraulic steel structures and structural steel for bridges
• In-depth knowledge of AWS D1.5 code and quality standards for USACE and DOT bridge projects
• Proven experience managing complex steel fabrication in a leadership capacity
• Strong understanding of welding operations, structural steel codes, and shop-floor workflows
• Working knowledge of ERP systems and fabrication scheduling tools
• Demonstrated success in leading teams and delivering measurable improvements in plant performance
• Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or similar certification a plus
