JOB TITLE: Plant Manager
SITUATION IN ORGANIZATION
The NKC Site Manager reports to the Regional Manufacturing Manager AMAS WBR-Resins Coating Solutions.
JOB DIMENSIONS
The NKC Site Manager has full P/L responsibility and provides leadership, direction, and management for all aspects of the plant’s manufacturing operations. The SM assists in the creation of the organization’s vision and growth strategies and executes the business and operations plans to achieve revenue, profit, and performance targets while continuing the plant’s record of success and high levels of safety and customer service.
The SM works closely with the Sales organization on key customers and opportunities and contributes to the customer quality and service processes. The SM also works closely with the product development team and assists in the commercialization of new products and processes while ensuring that both manufacturing capacity and product development initiatives are aligned with the current and future needs of the customer and secures the required capital funding in collaboration with the Director of Manufacturing.
The SM directly supports the Plant Staff to manage activities and lead continued improvement in the areas of Operations, Maintenance, Human Resources, Engineering, Accounting, Purchasing, Quality, and Laboratories. The SM possesses a strong, working knowledge and ensures compliance related to all external regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and internal policies and procedures (specifically capital, accounting, purchasing, and HES).
KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
30% HESQ
Safety: Facilitates integration of plant loss control practices with AIMS elements. Ensures policies and procedures are in place to promote safety beliefs and advance safety as a core value.
Environmental: Leads efforts to improve work processes to ensure regulatory compliance.
Services: Maintains integrity of quality assurance program to satisfy customers and protect Arkema from liability. Ensures that purchasing activities are conducted in an ethical manner and that necessary MRO parts are available and obtained at a competitive cost.
30% Operation & Financial Management
Operations: Ensures safe operating procedures and practices are followed. Monitors plant production levels to ensure that volumes meet demand requirements set forth by S&OP plan.
Technical: Facilitates Reliability Improvement Process to maximize unit productivity while optimizing operating costs. Oversees capital use to provide return on investment, increase asset value, maintain infrastructure and meet business needs.
Key Metrics: HSE performance; Supply/Demand Balance including Working Capital; Customer Service Level; MUV, Yield, Quality-COPQ/NPS; RPE cost; Profitability by product family; Execution of key initiatives.
30% Team Work & Leadership
Mentoring/Coaching: Develop close working relationships with plant personnel and places a strong focus on improving both individual and team performance.
Communication: Manage timely communication to all stakeholders – both internal and external to the plant.
Human Resources: Ensures that activities related to recruitment, training, payroll, employee separations, etc. are handled in a professional manner. Assists with contract negotiations.
10% Other: Leads, manages and supports all components of AIMS.
Other duties as assigned.
CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT
Site operates 24/7. Site Manager may need to be available on call or in person for urgent matters.
- High profile / key leadership position within the plant, which works closely with every department, sales and marketing, customers and the community. Has direct daily involvement with most of the activities in the facility.
- Maintain high level of communication from the Business through the Plant Support Staff.
- Close interaction with the Business Management Team and Product Management Team.
- Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements.
- Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
- Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents.
- Supports and promotes SMART initiative.
- Responsible to support and strive to meet the Plant Goals as provided by the Manufacturing Manager.
- Responsible for conducting a Loss Prevention and Control plant inspection on a monthly basis. Follow up on corrective actions.
- Responsible for Corporate Communications to NKC Powder Employees.
- Oversees SAP maintenance software, Preventative Maintenance and work order system, environmental and safety checks.
- Will ensure that a monthly cycle count of raw materials and/or finished goods inventories is maintained.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS /WORK EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering required, MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive manufacturing experience in plant operations, process design, and engineering, preferably in both a large and small-size integrated process manufacturing company.
- 7+ years leading multiple-department staff (hourly & exempt) and/or leading major projects and initiatives across a variety of departments/disciplines.
- Good knowledge of PC applications (including Microsoft Office suite; Lotus Notes; and SAP) accounting systems and the ability to learn new system processes, preferably SAP experience.
DEMONSTRATED COMPETENCIES
Leadership experience in a specialty chemicals or petroleum plant is required as well as a background in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Self-motivated, capable decision-maker that is able to effectively influence others.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to interact with and advise senior level business management.
