Candidate Overview

SMI seeks to hire a Plant Manager who demonstrates strong leadership skills, exceptional business savvy, and is disciplined and attentive to operational fundamentals, continuous improvement, safety, and integrity.

Responsibilities Include But May Not Be Limited To

  • Operational excellence and P&L management for the plant, including production operations, process engineering, environment & safety, customer relations, purchasing, facilities, quality, project management, planning & scheduling, and employee & labor relations.
  • Meet or exceed performance objectives related to cost, efficiency, utilization, quality, and schedule as outlined in the Annual Business Plan. A strong P&L orientation is highly desirable.
  • Function as a change agent to manage new processes, training, systems, and metrics for continuous improvement and organizational excellence.
  • Collaborate with Environmental, Health, and Safety leads to ensure compliance and employee welfare.
  • Evaluate and develop the plant’s technical, operational, and managerial resources; build a world-class team through training and development.
  • Build a strong management team, conduct manpower reviews, succession planning, and performance evaluations.
  • Prepare detailed production and cost reduction plans, budgets, and project plans addressing infrastructure, capacity, overhead, inventory, capital needs, etc.
  • Utilize manufacturing systems and controls, manage deviations, and implement corrective actions to maximize yields and productivity.
  • Maintain excellent communication with internal and external stakeholders to foster a proactive, team-oriented environment.
  • Manage employee relations, cultivate a positive culture, and oversee employee selection, retention, and development.
Required Skills

  • Proven track record of operational and cultural improvements in facility turnaround.
  • 8-10 years of operations leadership across disciplines such as production, project management, scheduling, purchasing, quality, environmental compliance, maintenance, engineering, safety, and logistics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or operations management preferred; equivalent experience acceptable.
  • Experience with advanced manufacturing technologies, process improvements, automation, and large equipment.
  • Strong technical and engineering skills, capable of evaluating and re-engineering systems and processes.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement programs.
  • Ability to develop operational and strategic plans, and work collaboratively with corporate functions.
  • Comfortable working in non-union environments, acting as a change agent, and building positive employee relations.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present to staff and executives, and build relationships across all levels.
  • Leadership qualities such as integrity, results orientation, and accountability.
Work Environment

The work environment involves exposure to dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes, and potentially heights, dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, slippery surfaces, uneven terrain, and high noise levels. Appropriate safety measures and protective equipment are required.

Physical Demands

Position requires mobility such as bending, standing, walking, sitting, climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, reaching, grasping, and repetitive movements.
