Job summary

GDS LLC in Missouri is seeking a Dispatcher/ Plant Manager to manage incoming calls, confirm concrete orders, and ensure timely delivery with accurate site details.

The role requires strong organizational and leadership skills to coordinate dispatch and plant operations under pressure, including weekend work and a focus on safety and quality control.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in dispatching, logistics, or transportation combined with supervisory/plant operations experience; ready-mix or construction materials industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of concrete mix design, batch plant operations, and QC testing methods.
  • ACI and/or NRMCA certifications preferred (or willingness/ability to obtain them).
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple changing priorities — both scheduling/dispatch and plant operations — at once.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills — comfortable on multi-line phones and leading plant staff.
  • Comfortable with computer/data entry systems: order processing software, spreadsheets, GPS/routing tools, inventory management.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills; comfortable making operational decisions under pressure.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming customer calls and process concrete orders — confirm quantity, mix design, delivery time, and job site details.
  • Enter and update orders accurately in the dispatch/batching system (e.g., Command Alkon, Digital Fleet, or similar).
  • Schedule and assign mixer trucks and drivers to loads, adjusting the number of drivers needed throughout the day to match demand.
  • Communicate schedules, load times, and changes clearly to drivers, plant staff, and customers throughout the shift.
  • Monitor truck status and delivery progress in real time; adjust routes and schedules for weather, traffic, or job site delays
  • Oversee all plant operations — coordinate and monitor daily workloads and production schedules across the plant.
  • Supervise drivers, batch operators, and other plant personnel; train, develop, and motivate staff toward production and safety goals.
  • Enforce company safety rules, conduct safety meetings/toolbox talks, and ensure all staff use required PPE.
  • Monitor concrete quality and consistency — oversee or perform QC testing (slump, air content, etc.) and ensure mix designs meet job specifications.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot batch plant equipment; schedule routine maintenance and repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Manage raw material inventory — track stock levels, coordinate orders/deliveries of cement, aggregate, and admixtures.
  • Resolve delivery issues, order conflicts, or customer complaints quickly and professionally.
  • Enforce and communicate DOT Hours of Service rules and other safety/compliance requirements to drivers.
  • Complete daily reporting and administrative tasks: delivery tickets, order logs, production paperwork, and customer tickets.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, environmental, and other applicable regulations; maintain required logbooks and postings.
  • Review and approve driver/staff timecards, PTO requests, and communicate attendance issues to upper management.
  • Prepare incident reports and communicate operational deficiencies, QC issues, or productivity concerns to management.
  • Work weekends as needed to support project schedules and delivery demand.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned, based on the needs of specific projects

Work Environment
  • Split between office-based dispatch work and on-site plant floor presence — exposure to dust, noise, weather, and heavy equipment.
