Metals USA -- Gregor Technologies Division in Torrington, CT, seeks a Plant Manager to lead front-line supervisors and hourly workers, directing production safety programs, recruitment, and training of new hires while ensuring a safe, compliant, and productive operation.

The Plant Manager will drive on-time delivery, housekeeping, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement across all production functions. Strong leadership and communication are essential for this role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with steel service management experience.

Responsibilities

• Initiate and execute production plan and process; create production schedule and workflow duties.
• Interact with all departments to ensure optimal production and on-time delivery.
• Recruit, hire, orient/train and retain production front-line supervisors and employees.
• Improve manpower utilization to align with production process and increase revenue.
• Supervise receipt of incoming material shipments and QA inspections; complete receiving process.
• Ensure warehouse materials are stored properly and conduct inventory control.

Job description

• High School Graduate or Equivalent required with prior steel service management experience
• Bachelor Degree in Business Management preferred
• Must possess a minimum of 5 years as a supervisor in a production/manufacturing environment
• Should have prior experience with the metals service; preferably with carbon steel (tubing, beam and plate)
• Previous experience / broad understanding of safety systems and enforcement of safety rules and policies
• Ability to interface effectively with all departments to foster a success-oriented, deadline driven organization.
• Ability to effectively communicate with both oral & written communication to internal & external customers.
• Must have strong analytical, organizational and decision-making skills to execute and manage effectively.
• Ability to demonstrate professionalism and diplomacy to both internal & external customers.
• Ability to be flexible and adapt to all work flow & conditions as needed

• Must successfully complete OSHA 30 hour safety certification training.

External Description

Metals USA -- Gregor Technologies Division is seeking a Plant Manager in Torrington, CT. Metals USA is a solid, growth oriented aluminum/stainless steel distribution center The Plant Manager is responsible to manage and develop the front-line supervisors and hourly employees.

The Plant Manager will execute production safety, housekeeping, recruitment, orientation and training of all new hires as well as on-going training and development of entire production workforce. The Plant Manager is responsible for ensuring a preventive maintenance program and warehouse functions comply with Metals USA, Reliance Steel and Aluminum and all regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities:

• Initiates and executes production plan and process, clarifies and exceeds production goals. Creates production schedule and workflow duty assignments.
• Interacts with all departments to ensure optimal production and on-time delivery schedule.
• Recruits, hires, orient/trains and retains production front-line supervisors and employees. Leads an ongoing world-class production orientation program.
• Strives continually to improve manpower utilization to align with production process in order to positively impact revenue.
• Supervises the receipt of incoming material shipments, verifying that appropriate receipt and quality control inspections are completed in a timely manner and appropriate transactions are made to complete the receiving process.
• Ensures that materials in the warehouse are stored properly, inspected and processed via accepted material handling and warehousing principles. Supervises and participates in the physical inventory control process.
• Supervises staging of materials to support timely delivery of materials, prepare shipments of items as required and prepare materials for processing to scrap.
• Develops, implements and executes production tracking and quality control systems to analyze production quality control and capacity utilization.
• Ensures that collective bargaining agreement, if applicable, is effectively administered, and is in compliance with the current collective bargaining agreement language.
• Strives continually to improve workplace safety awareness and achieves an injury-free work environment. Develops and implements a world-class safety culture.
• Maintains individual knowledge/skill and experience as required to ensure optimal production acumen.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a Plant Manager in the warehouse.
• Adheres to, explains and enforces all company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations.
• Adheres to Reliance Steel and Aluminum Code of Conduct as well as customer confidentiality requirements.
• Executes a safe and injury-free environment; ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies.
• Adheres to all company, customer and employee confidentiality requirements.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

Occupation requires physical activity more than 80% of the time (> 6.5 hours per day)

• Stand, walk, sit, talk , hear, use of hands and fingers, hand-eye coordination reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend
• Regularly required to work on multiple concurrent tasks with constant interruptions
• Lift, carry, push and/or pull 51 -- 100 lbs. with assistance

Other Physical Requirements:

Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)

• Steel-toed boots
• Hard hats with chin strap; chin strap must be worn at all times while in the warehouse
• Visual Acuity requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
• Hand protection
• Arm guards/sleeves
• Hearing protection if required by the hearing conservation program

May be exposed to some of the following working conditions.

• Working both inside and outside of the warehouse facility
• Exposure to all weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, precipitation and snow
• Moderate to loud noise levels
• Vibration
• Oils, dust, fumes and metallic particles
• Day shift primarily, but will be required to work all shifts as needed
