Job Opportunity: Plant Manager in Memphis, TN

Spectra Tech is seeking a Plant Manager for a Food Manufacturing Plant located in Memphis, TN.

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Oversee and ensure the proper functioning, efficiency, and cohesion of all site activities, including production, maintenance, engineering, quality, health and safety, environment, human resources, and training, to meet site objectives in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  2. Collaborate daily with key centralized functions such as finance, quality assurance, laboratory, engineering, purchasing, logistics, sales, and distribution.
  3. Promote a strong health and safety culture focused on prevention and regulatory compliance.
  4. Monitor Key Performance Indicators across relevant areas and manage performance to optimize cost efficiency, quality, flexibility, and productivity; conduct routine data-driven reviews using platforms like Safety Chain, Unix, Cognos, Grafana, LEMS, Alchemy, etc.
  5. Maintain existing plant facilities and equipment; manage capital assets through acquisition and maintenance.
  6. Develop and manage the annual facility budget, focusing on operational costs, continuous process improvements, and implementing cost-effective control systems for capital and operational expenditures, manpower, wages, and salaries, updating forecasts as needed.
  7. Coordinate investigations and resolutions of plant non-conformities, customer issues, and complaints in collaboration with the quality manager, initiating corrective actions promptly.
  8. Assist site management in problem-solving, employee mobilization, and applying site rules and collective agreements within a framework of continuous improvement.
  9. Provide leadership in employee relations through effective communication, coaching, training, and development; oversee day-to-day human resources management in collaboration with site leadership, including personnel hiring and succession planning.
  10. Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state/province, and local regulations, including environmental standards and renewal of licenses and permits.
  11. Serve as a backup for other site manager functions when required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, Operations Management, or related discipline, with emphasis on process control preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of operational management experience in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and lead teams with integrity and respect, including working successfully with unionized personnel where applicable.
  • Knowledge of food industry standards, GMP, HACCP, Food Safety, and GFSI programs.
  • Experience in continuous process improvement methodologies such as Lean, RCA, PDCA.
  • Technical skills in materials and inventory management, production scheduling, and preventative maintenance.
  • Basic understanding of industrial equipment like pumps, conveyors, valves, PLCs, variable frequency drives, etc.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with food or biological processes.
  • Experience in Dairy, Fermentation, and continuous improvement initiatives is a plus.
