Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2–5+ years of mechanical maintenance experience in the aggregate, mining, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance and basic mechanical repairs.
  • Familiarity with welding, cutting torches, and power/hand tools.
  • MSHA and OSHA compliance knowledge and adherence are required.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect equipment before and after shifts and perform scheduled PM tasks.
  • Troubleshoot and replace basic mechanical components such as belts, idlers, pulleys, and water pumps.
  • Repair wear parts and perform welding, cutting, and grinding as needed.
  • Rebuild and fabricate parts or assemblies as required.
  • Order parts from vendors and manage parts pickup/transport.
  • Maintain logs and records for service, lubrication, and maintenance activities.
  • Assist in maintenance and repair of mobile equipment.
  • Follow safety protocols including LOTO and keep hazard-free work areas.

Job Summary

The Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining site reliability by performing high-quality inspections, troubleshooting basic preventative maintenance (PM) tasks, and executing routine maintenance with no supervision. This role includes replacing basic components and assisting in minimizing unplanned downtime through proactive maintenance efforts.


Essential Functions


  • Conduct pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections, lubricate moving parts, and complete scheduled preventative maintenance tasks to prevent component failures.

  • Troubleshoot and replace basic mechanical components, including conveyor belts, idlers, pulleys, and water pumps.

  • Perform structural repairs, hard facing, and replace heavy wear-parts (such as crusher liners and shaker screens) using welding, cutting, and grinding equipment.

  • Rebuild and fabricate parts.

  • Order parts from approved vendors and drive Company pick-up/repair truck to pick up parts.

  • Strictly adhere to MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) and OSHA regulations, execute Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols, and maintain a hazard-free work area.

  • Observe aggregate crushing, washing, and screening areas during operation to identify anomalies by sight or sound and perform minor adjustments.

  • Record and maintain service logs, lubrication reports, and maintenance records for plant equipment.

  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of mobile equipment.

  • Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.

  • Technical Expertise -Solid mechanical understanding of mobile equipment, including basic maintenance checks and troubleshooting minor issues. Ability to identify signs of equipment malfunction, understand and report them to the maintenance team.


Education


  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.


Experience


  • 2 to 5+ years of mechanical maintenance experience in the aggregate, mining, or heavy industrial sectors.


Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities


  • Familiarity with heavy equipment commonly found in quarries, like jaw/cone crushers, vibrating screen decks, material screws, and heavy-duty pumps.

  • Understanding of plant operations, processes, and performance goals

  • Knowledge of inspection procedures for critical areas of the site

  • Knowledge of routine maintenance tasks and troubleshooting techniques

  • Understanding of larger maintenance tasks and repair processes


Other Requirements


  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in welding (stick, flux-core), cutting torches, and using power/hand tools.

  • Use a wide variety of hand and power tools, cutting torches and welding equipment.

  • MSHA Certified (or willingness to complete required MSHA training).

  • An active valid driver's license.


Hourly Range: the hourly range for this role is between $27.00 - $37.00. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate’s compensation, we consider a number of factors, including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.


Shift Differential. At Vulcan Materials Company, in the Northeast Division, Night or Second Shift employees are paid a shift differential of an additional 20% on their base pay if the employee works certain hours during the designated time period. We believe the additional compensation helps to offset the inconvenience of working less desirable hours.
