Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive maintenance on engines, tools, conveyors, and production machines by following manuals and diagrams.
  • Locates problems by observing equipment in operation and using precision measuring tools.
  • Removes defective parts and replaces them with inspection of parts for wear.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment parts and anticipates needs to avoid downtime.
  • Documents actions and communicates issues to ensure safety and efficiency on site.

The Plant Maintenance Technician position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of business goals and objectives. The Plant Maintenance Technician works with the Operations and General Manager, to plan, schedule and execute maintenance and other mechanical activities to ensure plants are operating in an efficient and safe manner.

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 year experience in a construction/ready mix environment with increasing management responsibilities including supervision of others.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record, according to Knife River Fleet policy.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal/written instructions.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in a ready mix or construction related environment.
  • General knowledge of operating computer systems and use of software.
  • Loader operating experience.

Duties and/or Responsibilities:

  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Remove defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, hand power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
  • Determines changes dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools.
  • Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
  • Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level.
  • Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Informs and coordinates with management scheduled and unscheduled equipment breakdowns.
  • Adheres to the Employee Handbook and administers disciplinary action as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Equipment maintenance and technical understanding.
  • Must be able to work with internal leadership and frontline and external. Must be able to perform match calculations to estimate concrete volume and pricing for customers.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and jobsites can be loud.
