Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employee without sponsorship.

Security Sensitive; 3 year driving record and criminal background checks conducted on selected candidate. Hiring decision is contingent upon applicant clearing checks. May work 4-10, 9-80, or alternate work schedule. Applicant required to successfully complete testing to lift/carry 78 lbs., pull 125 lbs., lift 2-45 lbs. weights up a ladder, kneeling work in confined spaces, and other tasks.

Purpose

To perform skilled work in an electrical generation, mechanical and electrical utility, and chilling station environment.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs plant equipment and utility systems. Assists in performing periodic inspections of major mechanical and electrical equipment and chilled water systems. Installation includes welding in accordance with ASME and AWS standards. Accuracy in all phases of work performed.
  • Performs preventive or corrective maintenance tasks incidental to the operation of mechanical, electrical or utility tunnel distribution systems in accordance with established procedures. Remove, fabricate, and install insulation systems in accordance with established specifications. Remove ACM-containing materials in accordance with all rules and regulations. Wears respiratory protection as required by task. May be required to work around hazardous materials with appropriate controls.
  • Maintains records of equipment repair. Works in conjunction with trades or utility personnel in support of systems within power plant, chilling stations, utility tunnels or other underground utilities. Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Informs appropriate personnel of unusual conditions, problems, or deficiencies as related to equipment and corrects as necessary. Completes work orders as required using automated systems.
  • Cleans and maintains all equipment and work areas. Identifies, reports, and corrects safety hazards. Updates procedures as necessary. Drives UT vehicle. Maintain acceptable driving record required by UT Systems Policy UTS157. Follows all University and Utilities safety policies. Adheres to the rules of the Utilities Employee Policy Manual. Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Operates cranes, forklifts, and personnel lifts. Inspect, erect, utilize, and break down scaffolding as necessary in support of plant maintenance and operational duties. Performs elevated work and work in confined spaces. Required to carry UT-provided cell phone during work hours and on-call hours.
  • Attends job-related training and complete training modules.
  • Paints plant equipment in accordance with equipment manufacturers recommendations or procedures.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned. Attends staff meetings. Attends safety training and meetings. Complete plant operation and maintenance training courses. Training certification required within 18 months. May report to the PRC Campus.


Required Qualifications

  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Two years of experience in skilled level repair and maintenance of electrical, industrial, mechanical or utility distribution equipment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • More than three years of related skilled level experience in the repair and maintenance of industrial plant mechanical, electrical or industrial equipment or utility distribution systems.
  • Experience maintaining power plant or similar industrial/utility equipment.
  • Journey level experience in industrial insulation, including fabrication of insulating blankets, thermal insulation, and asbestos handling and abatement.
  • Welding certification in accordance with ASME and industry codes.
  • Experience as a machinist including fabricating, modifying, and repairing pump, turbine, and boiler parts.
  • Experience in a university plant or utility environment.
  • Experience in using a work order system.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated effective teamwork and interpersonal communication skills.


Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

$60,000

Occasional work from ladders and/or scaffolds. May be required to operate forklifts, personnel lifts and cranes. Operate other job related equipment. Participate in on-call program.

40 hours a week, Monday - Friday 06:00 AM - 02:30 PM
