Job summary

Orlando Health is seeking a seasoned Plant Engineer to operate and maintain boilers, chillers, generators and associated support systems, ensuring reliability and efficiency across facilities.

This full-time, onsite role covers the 2pm-10pm shift Tuesday-Saturday with coverage of other shifts as needed, and requires five years of experience in building trades or energy plant operations; High school diploma; opportunity to grow within a patient‑focused, award-winning healthcare system in Florida.

Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of experience in building trades or energy plant operations.
  • Three years of experience is required if a trade or vocational school graduate.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains boilers, chillers, generators and associated support systems.
  • Monitors control screens and various meters and gauges to ensure equipment operates properly.
  • Starts, stops and switches over boilers as appropriate.
  • Cleans and repairs boilers, blow tubes and discharge sediment, and pumping equipment.
  • Starts and stops chillers to maintain setpoints and efficiency.
  • Checks and monitors cooling towers and regulates feed water.
  • Keeps logs for chemical treatment to boiler and cooling system water.
  • Conducts and documents generator testing.
  • Operates switchgear to regulate and transfer power loads.
  • Completes assigned preventative and corrective maintenance work orders and ensures data capture in TMS.
  • Logs pertinent operating information and maintains records to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Coordinates, conducts and documents fire and life safety inspections and testing to ensure policy compliance.
  • Assists in training other plant engineers with energy plant operation/maintenance skills.
  • Maintains regular attendance per Orlando Health policies and applicable laws.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Position Summary

Responsibilities
Essential Functions

  • Conducts and documents generator testing.

  • Completes assigned preventative and corrective maintenance work orders and ensures work order data is captured in TMS.
  • Log all pertinent operating information and maintains records to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Coordinates, conducts and documents all fire and life safety measures to include inspections and testing to ensure compliance with policies.
  • Assists in training other plant engineers with energy plant operation/maintenance specific skills.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
  • Adheres to established hospital and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety and infection control activities.
  • Attends in-services and meetings as required. Maintains all records and information pertinent to work assignments.
  • Keeps work area orderly, clean and safe.
  • Promotes and engages in behavior that is conducive to Orlando Health’s standards of behavior.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

Experience
