Job description

Job Summary:

Performs various maintenance tasks and repairs most equipment and machinery utilized in the Medical Center. Operates machines vital to performing maintenance and repair. Operates, maintains, modifies, and repairs a variety of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Upholds Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable state, federal, and local laws.
  2. Performs various maintenance tasks such as replacing filters, lubricating bearings, and repairing cabinets.
  3. Performs electrical repairs such as bed lamps, non-complex electrical devices, changing ballasts, repairing electrical line cords, fixing light switches, isolating electrical problems, and replacing fuses.
  4. Conducts electrical safety tests on equipment, electrical plugs, and outlets.
  5. Unclogs pipes and plumbing fixtures and related equipment as necessary.
  6. Performs routine repairs on equipment such as stethoscopes, otoscopes, ophthalmoscopes, vacuum units, cart washers, autoclaves, oxygen outlets, air outlets, suction pumps, hospital beds, sinks, toilets, and other associated hospital plant equipment.
  7. Completes work assignments including routine installations of plant equipment, hanging signs and pictures, and adjusting and maintaining time clocks.
  8. Determines type and extent of equipment malfunction, adjusting, disassembling, repairing, or replacing parts and components; reassembles and tests equipment for safe and proper operations by reading blueprints, diagrams, and repair manuals.
  9. Performs preventative maintenance including cleaning, oiling, painting, calibration, and other related services to extend the life cycle of equipment or to maintain a clean, safe, hygienic work environment.
  10. Through on-the-job training, assists skilled maintenance persons in trade tasks in which the employee is not certified.
  11. Repairs and maintains air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, including related electrical circuit analysis.
  12. Troubleshoots and repairs related equipment including, but not limited to, thermostats, ice machines, air dampers, and other associated equipment.
  13. Repairs complex electrical devices and components requiring the use of schematic and wiring diagrams.
  14. Performs circuit analysis to localize, isolate, and identify defective electrical components using precision test equipment including volt, ohm meters, and oscilloscopes to repair circuit boards and transistorized components, replacing defective components, restoring equipment to operational state, and performing calibration and electrical safety tests.
  15. Repairs or modifies equipment or plant structures by welding using both electrical or oxygen-acetylene equipment, cuts, brazes, and solders all types of metal materials.
  16. Performs locksmithing tasks including cutting keys, fitting and installing locks, and maintaining a key control system.
  17. Performs other related duties as required, including driving trucks or vans to outlying clinics or remote areas to facilitate or expedite maintenance requirements.
  18. Promotes, ensures, and improves customer service to internal/external customers by demonstrating skills consistent with the organization's philosophy of providing extraordinary customer relations and quality service.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

  • This position requires meeting at least 2 out of 3 numbered skill areas below:
  • 1) 2 years recent experience with steam-related equipment. Possession of the LA Unlimited Steam License OR the 500 HP LA City Steam License.
  • 2) 2 years recent Journeyman level electrical experience AND a passing score on the electrical knowledge and performance skills tests.
  • 3) Air-conditioning/refrigeration experience. Those qualifying with refrigeration experience must possess EPA Rule 608 Universal Certification AND a passing score on the air-conditioning knowledge and performance skills tests.
  • Extensive knowledge of HVAC systems, ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems required. Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes required.
