Job description

Otter Tail Power is seeking a Plant Engineer to join our Big Stone Plant team. We are open to hiring at Engineer I, Engineer II, or Engineer III levels, depending on candidate qualifications and experience. In this role, you’ll help maintain and improve plant operations and efficiencies, supporting our mission to deliver reliable, affordable, and environmentally responsible electricity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage plant improvement projects, including thermal performance engineering
  • Advise other departments to reduce operating costs and increase plant availability
Qualifications by Level
  • Understanding of engineering standards and safety protocols
  • Reliable work performance; seeks guidance and feedback
  • Effective communicator; learns to manage small tasks under supervision
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage engineering projects and tasks
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience
  • In-depth knowledge of materials, construction standards, protection schemes, and safety regulations
  • Experience communicating technical information to non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills delivering complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders; acts as a role model for junior engineers
General Requirements
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code and American Society of Civil Engineers standards is a plus
  • Ability to work in variable conditions; role may be physical at times
  • Valid driver’s license required
Benefits & Compensation

The expected base compensation offer for this role is $82,000 - $125,000 USD annually. Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position and level.
