Job summary

Air Liquide Geismar in Geismar, LA is seeking a Plant Engineer to partner with operations to improve processes while ensuring safety, reliability and efficiency of equipment. You will help ensure projects are executed to meet production objectives and uphold Air Liquide's standards.

The role requires a bachelor’s in mechanical or chemical engineering with 2+ years in an industrial plant setting, and exposure to maintenance, capital projects, MOC, and root-cause analysis.

  • 2+ years in an industrial production facility as a plant engineer or similar role.
  • Experience with process improvement and troubleshooting in a plant environment.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with operations to identify opportunities for process improvement and refurbishment projects while maintaining safety and reliability.
  • Provide engineering support including MOC creation, small project management, and action item completion.
  • Develop and execute capital project scope, cost, and schedule within time and budget.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory and Air Liquide safety standards and procedures.

R10094845 Plant Engineer (Open) Location Geismar, LA - 36183 LA Hwy (Utilities) - Water plant Air Liquide Large Industries provides our customers with industrial gas and energy solutions that are vital to their own industrial production. We own and operate over 2,000 miles of industrial gas pipelines in the U.S. supplying mainly oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen and syngas in large quantities from multiple production sources to major customers in the chemicals, petrochemicals, refining and steel industries. Our pipeline operations and industrial gas production facilities are closely monitored 24/7 within our leading-edge operations control center located in Houston, Texas. Our operations control group monitors over 89,000 data points and assists with product supply and coordination. We are constantly optimizing our supply network to provide high reliability and energy efficiencies allowing Air Liquide to adjust supply needs more quickly and effectively enabling growth to our customers.

The main goal for this role is to partner with operational teams by suggesting opportunities for process improvement as well as refurbishment projects in production plants, while respecting safety, reliability and efficiency of equipment. In this role, you will help ensure that projects are properly executed to meet production objectives, while promoting ALC's quality and safety objectives.

Safety & Compliance Leadership

Provide visible HSE leadership to site technicians and actively support and promote the Life Critical Safety system (LCS)

Support and maintain all aspects of Health, Safety, Environmental and Regulatory Compliance

Operates facility in compliance with all Air Liquide policies

Work to achieve our goal of “Zero Accidents” by taking a proactive, guiding role in safety.

Keep plant hazard analysis current and display thorough knowledge of possible hazards and associated safeguards. Compliance with EIS requirements.

Ensure all incidents are reported and investigated and corrective actions are completed

Complete assigned action items from audits

Approve critical work permits (hot work, confined space, etc.)

Key contributor to site Safe Work Permit (SWP) and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) Programs

Operational & Engineering Support

Perform process troubleshooting. Identify and recommend process changes and plant projects to improve plant HSE, reliability and efficiency

Support the operations with engineering support ranging including MOC creation, small project management, and action item completion.

Provide regulatory training and maintain required regulatory documentation (ISO documentation, RMP, MOC, etc)

Guide and maintain Key Operating Documents. Maintain updated red-lines at all times. Display detailed understanding of content and significance of each document

Ensure GT's are understood and followed by the plant staff

Ensure operating procedures are followed and updated as needed

Maintenance & Project Management

Partner with the Reliability Center to execute predictive and preventive maintenance to safeguard plant continuity and eliminate unplanned maintenance

Partner with the Reliability Team to execute planned maintenance and unexpected events.

Coordinates, schedules, and delivers certain maintenance activities for the site.

Foster and maintain high housekeeping standards

Assist in developing plant budget needs

Develop cost and economic justification for capital projects

Develop and execute capital project scope, cost, and schedule as assigned within time and budget requirements

Identify and implement opportunities to reduce costs within delegated authorization

Utilize national purchasing agreements and frame agreements

Professional Development & Administrative

Assist with training new technicians

Provide thoughtful, constructive input to management decisions and actively support those decisions.

Promote and ensure adherence to administrative and operational policies and procedures.

Complete Personal Development System goals as defined in annual review

On call nights, weekends and holidays as required

Occasional travel – typically 1 to 4 trips per year

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering required
  • Must be able to wear personal safety equipment, including hardhat, safety glasses, safety shoes, and flame resistant clothing
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in an industrial production facility in the role of plant engineer or other similar plant operations role; utilities, air gas, chemical, or refinery production experience preferred
  • Advanced project management and interpersonal skills to create cross-functional alignment.
  • Exceptional communication skills, specifically in developing action plans to ensure accountability and follow-through.
  • Strong project management abilities and the ability to manage plant personnel
  • Experience with root cause analysis and troubleshooting engineering issues within a plant operations environment
  • Trainable on Distributed Process Control (DCS) operation/troubleshooting
  • Able to deliver/explain training material to operating personnel
  • Familiarity with google Office products, Smartsolve, Maximo®, Oracle Cost Reporting, Oracle Purchasing is a plus
  • Able to maintain a plant filing system and control of engineering documents
  • Ability to read/red-line key operating documentsDisplay mechanical and electrical aptitude for equipment operation/troubleshooting
  • General understanding of accounting principles; ability to learn plant operating budget
  • Organized, effective at time management; ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, team leadership skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels in an organization
  • Ability to work extended hours/shift work as business needs dictate
  • On call nights, weekends and holidays as required; occasional travel
