Job summary

ENGIE North America Inc. is seeking an experienced Plant EHS Manager in Washington, DC area to lead environmental, health, and safety programs at the site. The role focuses on risk identification, regulatory compliance, and integrating EH&S into operations and planning.

The candidate will develop budgets, oversee audits, training, and reporting, and act as a liaison with regulatory agencies. A strong background in industrial EHS within energy or manufacturing settings is essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; or High School Diploma/GED with 10 years EHS experience.
  • 7+ years of EHS experience in industrial/manufacturing/energy environments.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and safety programs.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, develop, and manage EH&S programs for the plant.
  • Identify EH&S risks, develop mitigation plans, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and manage EH&S budgets and project cost reporting.
  • Lead safety training, audits, and incident investigations; support workers' comp processes.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies and oversee environmental reporting.

What You Can Expect

As our Plant Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Manager, you will be responsible for establishing, developing, and managing the environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) programs.

You will:

  • Identify EH&S risks, develop mitigation plans, and establish systems that meet/exceed regulatory requirements and align with business goals
  • Develop and manage EH&S budgets, consultant/contractor specifications, and project cost reporting
  • Incorporate EH&S into operations, maintenance, engineering, finance, and capital planning; provide input on fuel/urea procurement strategies
  • Serve as primary contact for regulatory agencies, negotiate permits, ensure notifications, and manage environmental reporting and record-keeping
  • Conduct EH&S audits, site assessments, due diligence for acquisitions, and compliance inspections; report findings to management
  • Design and implement supervisor/employee training on safety topics; lead Safety Committee; oversee Workers' Compensation and return-to-work programs
  • Develop hazardous materials response plans, coordinate with contractors and government agencies, and lead stormwater/toxic use reduction initiatives
  • Oversee accident investigations, perform root cause analysis, recommend corrective actions, and audit hazard control programs
  • Manage IH program, chemical inventories, and facility testing (air, water, waste); maintain OSHA compliance documentation
  • Supervise EH&S staff, contractors, and interns; provide technical safety design expertise for facility improvements and engineering projects
What You'll Bring
  • You have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry
  • A minimum seven (7) years of Environmental Health & Safety experience in an industrial, manufacturing, utility, energy, power generation, or plant environment
  • In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, a High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible professional experience in Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), environmental compliance, engineering, chemistry, industrial operations, or a closely related field
Additional Details
  • This role requires attendance at a worksiteon a daily basis
  • Must be available to travel domestically / locally up to 5% of the time
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license/clean driving record; you will drive a company vehicle
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • This position consists of 10% of outdoor work, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions
  • Must be familiar with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Must have the ability to work well independently and effectively with others
  • Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize work effectively, and see a work project through to completion
Compensation

Salary Range: $140,760 - $215,832 USD annually

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
