Job summary

Handsome Brook Farms seeks a Controller to oversee month-end close, internal controls, and financial reporting for a manufacturing operation. You will drive cost accounting, standard costing, and costing analyses to support plant performance and strategic decisions.

Qualifications

7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience in a manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of manufacturing cost accounting and inventory accounting.
Experience with standard costing, variance analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
High proficiency in U.S. GAAP and internal controls.
Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar.
Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities.
CPA, CMA, or MBA is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, payroll accounting, and financial reporting.
Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
Prepare accurate financial statements and management reports per GAAP.
Produce customized lender reporting and covenant ratio calculations.
Coordinate annual audits and tax-related activities with external firms.
Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Oversee standard costing and cost accounting processes.
Analyze manufacturing costs: direct materials, direct labor, overhead.
Monitor and explain manufacturing variances (material, labor, overhead, price).
Maintain inventory valuation and oversee physical counts and cycle counts.
Partner with operations to improve inventory accuracy, efficiency, and cost visibility.
Review bills of materials, routings, labor standards, overhead rates, and cost assumptions.
Identify cost reduction opportunities and operational improvements.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning with CFO/leadership.
Provide financial analysis to plant and operations leaders.
Develop and monitor key financial and operational metrics.
Analyze profitability by product, customer, plant, or business unit.
Support capital expenditure analysis and ROI evaluations.
Translate financial results into actionable insights for non-financial leaders.
Collaborate with Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, Sales, HR, and Engineering.
Support ERP improvements, financial systems enhancements, and process automation.
Understand payroll processes and payroll tax compliance requirements.
Experience setting up banking accounts for different entities.
Develop processes to improve finance function efficiency and scalability.
