Position SummaryThe Plant Care Specialist / Plant Technician is responsible for the ongoing care, appearance, and health of interior plants at assigned client locations. This is a field-based position requiring independent work, attention to detail, good time management, and professional interaction with clients.Plant Care Specialists are responsible not only for watering plants, but for evaluating plant health, identifying problems early, maintaining the overall appearance of plants and containers, documenting service, communicating concerns, and following established plant-care and quality-control procedures.Essential Job ResponsibilitiesService assigned client accounts according to established schedules and service standards.Water, trim, prune, clean, rotate, fertilize, and detail interior plants as appropriate.Maintain clean and professional-looking plants, containers, decorative surfaces, and surrounding areas.Evaluate plant health and appearance during each service visit and identify signs of stress, watering problems, disease, pests, environmental issues, or declining plant quality.Communicate plant conditions, replacement needs, pest concerns, and other account issues to the appropriate supervisor or manager.Identify plants requiring replacement and assist with plant replacements as directed.Monitor for common interior plant pests, including fungus gnats, thrips, mealybugs, spider mites, aphids, and other pests.Follow company-approved Integrated Pest Management (IPM) procedures, including cleaning, monitoring, traps, biological controls, and approved treatment methods as trained and directed.Complete required service records, Daily Records (DRs), Quality Control information, replacement requests, cases, or other documentation using company systems.Follow account-specific instructions and communicate unusual conditions, access issues, damaged containers, irrigation problems, or client concerns.Provide courteous and knowledgeable customer service when interacting with clients and building occupants.Work quietly, safely, and respectfully in professional office environments, including occupied workspaces and sensitive client areas.Protect client property, floors, furniture, and workspaces while performing plant care.Participate in required plant-care, safety, pest-management, customer-service, and company training.Assist with special projects, plant replacements, installations, moves, and other operational needs when required.Follow company safety procedures and immediately report accidents, injuries, hazards, or property damage.Driving and TransportationTravel independently between assigned client locations as required by the route.Maintain a valid driver's license when driving is required for the position.When a personal vehicle is required for an assigned route, maintain legally required automobile insurance.Mileage for authorized business travel using a personal vehicle will be reimbursed according to the company's current mileage reimbursement policy and applicable law.Maintain reliable transportation necessary to complete the assigned service schedule.Physical RequirementsThe position involves significant physical activity throughout the workday. Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:Regularly walking and standing for extended periods while servicing client locations.Walking significant distances during a normal workday; some routes may involve several miles of walking.Frequently bending, reaching, kneeling, squatting, and working around plants and containers.Safely lifting, carrying, pushing, or moving items weighing up to approximately 40 pounds, including watering equipment, plants, supplies, and containers.Safely operate watering equipment and other tools used for interior plant maintenance.QualificationsReliable, responsible, and able to consistently maintain an assigned work schedule.Self-motivated and comfortable working independently for significant portions of the day.Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality plant and account appearance.Good organizational and time-management skills.Ability to follow established procedures, account instructions, and service schedules.Good communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work effectively and respectfully with coworkers, supervisors, managers, clients, and other building occupants.Ability and willingness to learn plant identification, watering requirements, pest identification, and interior horticultural practices.Ability to use a smartphone for work-related communication, texting, photographs, navigation, training, and company applications/systems.Ability to read and understand work instructions, safety information, account notes, and plant-care procedures.Ability to wear the company-provided uniform and maintain a professional appearance while working at client locations.Ability to work early schedules when required. Typical routes may begin around 6:00 a.m., depending on client access and operational needs.Must be authorized to work in the United States.Preferred QualificationsPrevious experience with interior plants, landscaping, horticulture, agriculture, gardening, nursery operations, or a related field is preferred but not required.Knowledge of plant identification, irrigation, plant health, or pest management is a plus.Previous experience working independently in customer locations, route-based service, facilities, landscaping, or a similar field is helpful.Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are helpful but not required.What Success Looks LikeA successful Plant Care Specialist maintains healthy, attractive plants and clean, professional client spaces while consistently completing scheduled service and required documentation. The Specialist notices problems early, communicates them promptly, follows company procedures, and takes ownership of the quality of the accounts assigned to their route.Plant Care Specialists represent the company while working inside our clients' workplaces. Professionalism, reliability, attention to detail, plant knowledge, and respect for the client's environment are essential parts of the position.
