Job summary

Upstream Biotechnology, Inc. seeks a Research Scientist to lead bench-level plant molecular biology experiments supporting trait discovery.

You will design and execute transient expression assays in Nicotiana benthamiana, develop cloning strategies, and advance assays for crop-relevant systems such as soybean and corn. This role combines independent work with collaborative project ownership in a startup environment.

Qualifications

Ph.D. required with hands-on bench experience in plant molecular biology.
Experience independently executing Agrobacterium-mediated transient expression assays in N. benthamiana.
Strong troubleshooting and data-quality mindset.
Willingness to perform hands-on experiments in a startup setting.

Responsibilities

Design and execute transient expression assays in N. benthamiana.
Evaluate candidate constructs and regulatory elements.
Design cloning strategies for expression testing.
Develop and optimize transient assay methods for reproducibility and throughput.
