An established industry player is seeking a Full-Time Plans Examiner/Building Inspector to join their Planning, Zoning & Building Department. Position: Full-Time Plans Examiner/Building Inspector in the Planning, Zoning & Building Department.
A pre-employment physical and drug screen are required, except for current employees who have already met this requirement.
Under the general direction of the Building Official, the employee reviews plans, performs inspections, and enforces codes related to building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical trades. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with the Florida Statewide Building Code, FEMA floodplain development requirements, and Town codes and ordinances.
Perform any additional duties as assigned by the supervisor or department head.
Extensive knowledge of the Florida Statewide Building Code, building trades, and enforcement laws. Ability to read blueprints, maintain records, interpret codes, and establish effective working relationships.
Ability to analyze problems, communicate effectively, meet deadlines, and adapt to new regulations.
Preferred: Three or more active Florida licenses in plans review and building inspection, including residential and/or commercial, mechanical, electrical, or plumbing. Certification as a Floodplain Manager or Coastal Construction certification is a plus.
Required: High school diploma or equivalent, at least two active Florida licenses as a Plans Reviewer and Building Inspector, including one for residential and commercial construction, and a valid Florida driver’s license. Equivalent training and experience may be considered.
Work involves office and outdoor environments, with significant public contact. May require standing for long periods, working in adverse weather conditions, and managing physical tasks at outdoor sites.
Successful completion of a physical exam and drug screening is required. The Town is committed to a drug-free workplace and complies with all related laws and regulations.
