The Center for Preparedness and Response (CPR) is recruiting one Staff Services Manager II join the Planning, Preparedness and Coordination Section. The CPR coordinates statewide public health emergency preparedness and response planning for the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) with a primary focus on preparing Californians for public health emergencies.
Job Description And Duties
The Staff Services Manager II (SSM II) works under the general direction of the Planning, Recovery, and Evaluation Branch Chief, the Staff Services Manager II (SSM II) of the Planning, Preparedness, and Coordination Section is responsible for public health emergency planning, preparedness, and response activities in coordination with other programs in the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and other State and local agencies.
The SSM II supervises and manages the activities of the Planning, Preparedness, and Coordination Section and is responsible for overseeing, developing and maintaining CDPH’s all-hazards response plans, and Continuity of Operations plans, and all associated plans and preparations for Emergency Support Function 8, Public Health and Medical.
Up to 10% travel is required to attend meetings and participate in workgroups on behalf of the Center for Preparedness and Response (CPR) relating to public health emergency and response issues; attend Federal and State training programs, in-services and continuing education courses, workshops, conferences, and local site visits.
In order to address urgent operational needs or conduct emergency-related response activities, incumbent may, on occasion, be required to work outside core business hours, travel, and transport up to 25 lbs.
In the event of an emergency activation, the incumbent may be required, on short notice, to work irregular and overtime hours during disaster operations in order to support one of four CDPH Emergency Operation Centers (EOC). The incumbent is required to participate on an CPR Incident Response Team (IRT).

A Statement of Qualification (SOQ) is required. The SOQ must be typed in 12 point font, single-spaced, on letter sized paper, (8.5" x 11"), and be no more than TWO pages in length. Responses should be complete, specific, clear, concise, and include examples. Resumes or Cover letter will not be considered a substitute for the SOQ. The SOQ should address the following question:
Eligibility Information
If you are new to California State Service, you must take and pass the examination for this classification to be eligible for hire. Current state employees without transfer or list eligibility must also complete and pass the examination for this classification to qualify for this position.

Telework Information
This position may be eligible for telework up to three (3) days per week and is required to report in-person to the designated headquarters office location a minimum of two (2) days per week. The amount of telework permitted is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change, consistent with CDPH’s Telework Program. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.
Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquarters office subject to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the designated headquarters office will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
