Job summary

The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi is seeking a Planning Manager of Community Development to lead short- and long-term planning for tribal lands, infrastructure, and growth in Dowagiac, Michigan. The role offers a strong compensation package with up to $90,000 annually, plus extensive benefits and a defined pension plan.

A Certified Planner is required, along with a bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Planning or a related field is required.
• Minimum of 5 years of related planning experience.
• Certified Planner certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate short- and long-term community development, land use, and infrastructure planning initiatives.
• Develop and maintain Tribal land use, acquisition, and development plans in alignment with organizational goals.
• Provide planning expertise and recommendations to Tribal leadership, government teams, and the Land Use Board.
• Assist in developing land use policies, ordinances, and procedures to protect and enhance Tribal resources.
• Manage Tribal transportation programs, including grant planning, funding, and reporting.
• Identify and pursue public and private funding opportunities to support development projects.
• Collaborate with internal departments, external agencies, and community partners to advance planning initiatives.
• Oversee planning data and GIS coordination, improve departmental operations, and supervise assigned staff.
