Work hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. The role emphasizes technical support, collaboration, and delivering timely guidance through the development process in a dynamic city setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Planning or a related field and two years of applicable experience.
• Basic computer skills.
• Knowledge of planning principles and practices, zoning, and subdivision regulations.

• Assist with the enforcement and resolution of general zoning violations.

• Support the City's planning and development initiatives, including research and updates to the Comprehensive Plan and Zoning and Subdivision Regulations.

Job Summary

The City of St. Peters is seeking a knowledgeable and solutions-focused professional to support planning, zoning, development, and economic development activities throughout the community. This position provides technical and organizational support for development projects, interprets zoning and subdivision regulations, coordinates the review of plans and petitions, and works directly with developers, businesses, residents, and community partners to help facilitate responsible growth and development in St. Peters.

Normal Shift: Monday- Friday; 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide zoning information and assistance related to signs, fences, setbacks, parking, pools, decks, antennas, and other zoning matters.
• Assist with the enforcement and resolution of general zoning violations.
• Review plats, site plans, record plats, architectural elevations, and other development submissions for compliance with City requirements.
• Assist developers and businesses with project coordination and provide timely guidance throughout the development process.
• Support the City's planning and development initiatives, including research and updates to the Comprehensive Plan and Zoning and Subdivision Regulations.
• Coordinate annexation, rezoning, special use permit, variance, and related development petitions.
• Assist with pre-development and post-development site visits and provide recommendations to the Director.
• Support economic development efforts focused on attracting new businesses and retaining and expanding existing businesses.
• Build and maintain productive working relationships with commercial brokers, developers, business owners, residents, and other community partners.
• Provide Ombudsman support to help developers, businesses, and residents navigate Planning and Zoning Codes.
• Prepare research, reports, maps, graphics, and presentations for the Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, and other committees and groups.
• Review and approve assigned sign permit applications.
• Maintain accurate records related to rezoning, variances, annexations, site plans, and other development activities.
• Assist with census, demographic, social, mapping, and development data updates in coordination with the GIS Department.
• Identify issues, develop practical solutions, and make recommendations regarding planning and development activities.
• Follow established City safety standards and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker.
• Bachelor's degree in Planning or a related field and two (2) years of applicable experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Basic computer skills.

Desired Qualifications

• Knowledge of planning principles and practices, zoning, and subdivision regulations.
• Considerable knowledge of research and community development.
• Experience conducting meetings, making presentations, and resolving conflicts.
• General knowledge of computer and GIS applications.
• Familiarity with International Code Council (ICC) codes, floodplain interpretations, and FEMA regulations.
• Motor Vehicle Operator's license valid in the State of Missouri.
