Job summary

City of Pueblo Civil Service in Colorado is seeking a dedicated Planner to join the Planning & Community Development team. You will review zoning, subdivision, and master planning applications for compliance and analyze trends to prepare reports.

The role requires a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days and offers a salary between $61,036.92 and $76,748.76 with PERA retirement and benefits. Applications will be accepted through October 1, 2026.

Qualifications

  • A valid driver’s license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days of employment.
  • Six (6) months of successful experience in customer or public service in either a paid position or an internship.
  • Four (4) years of successful experience in land use or planning environment involving complex processing and a high degree of public interface OR a high school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

  • Review zoning, subdivision, and master planning applications for compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Research, analyze, and interpret social, economic, population, transportation, and land use trends; prepare written reports.
  • Research, verify, update and draft legislative documents for review; investigate planning-related complaints and recommend corrective actions.
  • Conduct field inspections to verify compliance with approved permits and licenses.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in planning, geography, public administration, policy, business, engineering, architecture or social sciences
High school diploma or GED

Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated individual to join us as a Planner for our Planning & Community Development team. If you are a motivated, detail-oriented professional who loves working with a dynamic team, this could be a perfect fit for you! As a Planner, you’ll receive and review zoning, subdivision, and master planning applications for compliance with appropriate regulations and policies, research, analyze, and interpret social, economic, population, transportation, and land use trends and prepare written reports on various planning matters. Additionally, you’ll research, verify, update and draft legislative documents for review, investigate planning-related complaints and recommend corrective actions and conduct field inspections to verify compliance with approved permits and licenses.

Qualifications

A valid driver’s license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days of employment

  • During the course of employment, a valid license must be maintained, and the employee must notify the City immediately upon changes to the status of their license

Additionally, candidates must have one of the following combinations of education and experience:

  • Six (6) months of successful experience in customer or public service in either a paid position or an internship
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in planning, geography, public administration, policy, business, engineering, architecture or a social sciences field.

Or

  • Four (4) years of successful experience in a position in a land use or planning environment involving complex processing and a high degree of public interface
  • A high school diploma or GED
