Job summary

BD is seeking a Maintenance Technician to own Planned and Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and Daily Team Maintenance (DTM). You will coordinate maintenance activities, work with the PM process, and plan resources for PM days and shutdowns to boost equipment availability.

You will interact with Engineering, Parts Crib, and vendors, enter SAP data, and help drive continuous improvements while ensuring safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Requires at least one year of formal training in mechanical trades or equivalent related experience.
  • 2-5 years of mechanical technical experience within a high-volume manufacturing production environment.
  • Working knowledge of maintenance systems, procedures, and SAP.
  • Prefer knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques, preventive maintenance, conveyors and reading blueprints.

Job description

Job Summary

Assume ownership of all aspects related to Planned and Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and Daily Team Maintenance (DTM). Coordinate maintenance activities and drive a culture of world class machine care. Work in conjunction with the other participants of the preventative maintenance (PM) process. Provide feedback to aid in continuous improvements to existing manufacturing equipment and the PM process to improve efficiencies and productivity. The position will require planning of maintenance, resources, and material on PM day and during shutdown.

Essential Functions
  • Implement improvements to existing PPM processes to increase productivity and efficiency.
  • Partner with department representatives to ensure the PPM is successfully initiated and completed within the time frame.
  • Report information to the PPM leader that is potentially advantageous to provide cost reductions and efficiency improvements as and when required.
  • Ensure that any statutory legislation/obligations are adhered to with regard to PPM, especially those associated with Health & Safety requirements and environmental needs.
  • Manage and ensure accurate data entry of SAP in relation to PM’s.
  • Work with Engineering and Parts Crib to ensure prompt and efficient management of spare parts.
  • Work with Engineering on planning Plant Shutdowns, ensuring the correct resources, materials, and workload.
  • Work with internal resources and outside vendors to procure parts and equipment.
  • Work as an additional resource to the Technical teams during scheduled planned maintenance periods.
  • Work outside of normal working hours as needed when required to support PM activities.
  • Carry out any other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate by respective leader.
  • Work closely with the PM Administrator to ensure successful completion of PM activities.

  • Complies with all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies/procedures.
  • Complies with all local BD quality policies/procedures/practices through consistent application of sound Quality Assurance principles.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education

Experience
  • Prefer 2-5 years of mechanical technical experience within a high-volume manufacturing production environment.
  • Have a working knowledge of maintenance systems, procedures, and SAP.
  • Prefer knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques, preventive maintenance, conveyors and reading blueprints.
Physical Requirements
  • Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds occasionally or 10 to 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly.
  • Physical demands requirement are in excess of those for Light Work.
  • Lift with your legs. Use mechanical means for moving and lifting.
  • Two-person lift on items greater than 35 pounds.

  • Must have good interaction with all levels and functions of the organization.
Equipment Use
  • Ability to operate fork truck, pallet truck, small hand tools, electronic etc. in successful completion of tasks.
  • May become a licensed forklift operator after hire.
Working Conditions
  • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.
  • The worker is subject to extreme heat: Temperature above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
  • The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
  • The worker is subject to vibration: Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
  • The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals and broken glass.
  • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
  • The worker is subject to oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
Supervision

The position reports directly to the Maintenance Manager.
