Responsibilities

Review submitted building construction plans for compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code.
Provide technical code information to the public and department staff.
Attend meetings and trainings to stay updated on developments.
Communicate professionally with stakeholders in design and development processes.
Conduct on-site inspections and enforce building codes.
Educate architects, engineers, contractors and the public on code requirements and changes.
Receive and respond to complaints about non-compliant construction; perform enforcement duties.
Testify in court on code violation cases.
Monitor revisions to building codes and policies.
Develop and update informational documents.
Collaborate with building inspectors and permit specialists to ensure smooth processes.
