Job description

We are working with a San Rafael, California plaintiffs’ commercial litigation boutique seeking a contract attorney with at least six to seven years (6-7+ years) of plaintiffs’ side commercial litigation experience to handle the day-to-day prosecution of legal and accounting malpractice cases for the firm.

The hired attorney will evaluate and work up the cases, collecting all necessary and desirable evidence, attending to all discovery tasks, and performing all essential legal research; prepare depositions; conduct motion practice, including oral argument; support trial preparation; assist trial counsel; and operate as Second Chair, if a case goes to trial.

Experience with legal and/or accounting malpractice claims, or, at least, with plaintiffs’ professional liability or financial tort litigation (e.g., securities or other fraud litigation, shareholder litigation, breach of fiduciary duty litigation, or even real estate fraud litigation) is essential.

Candidates must have strong brief writing skills, generally, and experience with summary judgment motions, in particular. They must also be able to handle written discovery requests and responses with only modest direction. For example, upon an explanation by the supervising attorney of the information that the firm seeks or how the firm seeks to approach responding to discovery, the successful candidate will be able to take the matter and run with it. Experience with document review and document production is also fundamental to the position.

The firm initially needs about a ten (10) hour commitment per week, but the workload will increase as cases get closer to trial. The job may be done remotely, except as trial needs and court appearances dictate. A California license in good standing is required. The compensation will be $100/hr.

Candidates may apply to this position on LinkedIn, the Hire Counsel website, or by direct e-mail to [emailprotected]. We at Hire Counsel cannot promise that a particular candidate will get the job or an interview, but we can promise that we will review all submitted resumes.
