Job summary

SGMC Health is seeking a Placement Specialist for the Transfer Center at the Main Campus. The role focuses on coordinating patient placement and bed management to optimize hospital capacity and patient care.

The position involves collaborating with clinical staff, admissions, and administration to ensure smooth patient flow while maintaining safety and satisfaction. Night shift availability and full-time schedule are required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associates Degree preferred.
  • Experience in a hospital or healthcare environment, with familiarity of inpatient admissions and bed management processes required.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Placement Specialist is responsible for coordinating the efficient and timely placement of patients within a hospital setting. This role ensures optimal utilization of hospital beds while maintaining high standards of patient care, safety, and satisfaction. The Specialist works closely with clinical staff, admissions personnel, and hospital administration to facilitate patient flow and manage bed assignments in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associates Degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE
  • Experience in a hospital or healthcare environment, with familiarity of inpatient admissions and bed management processes required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency with hospital information systems and bed tracking software.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure setting and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and understanding of infection control procedures.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Professional phone etiquette.
WORKING CONDITIONS - ADA INFORMATION

Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated, and ventilated space. Sits and walks intermittently throughout the day. Position consists of periods of sitting for long periods of time at a desk with computer and telephone work. Must be able to speak, hear, and see. Must be able to orally communicate both by telephone and in person. Will be required to walk, sit, stand, twist, bend, and lift no more than fifteen (15) lbs.
