Job summary

DPI in Downtown Phoenix is seeking an Economic Development Specialist to help attract and retain businesses while activating public spaces and strengthening Downtown’s sense of place. You will support urban revitalization projects, conduct data analysis, and coordinate with multiple partners to promote a thriving urban core.

You will work with Marketing, Events, Community Engagement and Street Level Operations teams to produce compelling materials and presentations for stakeholders and funders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related field preferred.
• 2–5 years of employment in economic development, urban planning or related area.
• Experience executing public space activation and/or urban design as part of downtown development strategies.
• Experience with project coordination, budgeting, and grant-funded initiatives is desirable.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with Downtown Phoenix and its neighborhoods is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the planning and implementation of placemaking initiatives that enhance Downtown Phoenix’s public realm.
• Identify opportunities for activating streets, parks, alleys, plazas and other public spaces.
• Collaborate with city departments, developers, property owners, neighborhoods, artists, and partners to advance projects.
• Assist with planning and execution of public realm improvements including wayfinding, streetscape enhancements, beautification and art installations.
• Assist in developing presentations, reports, grant applications, and stakeholder communications.
• Provide targeted research support including data collection, Salesforce database management, GIS mapping, and marketing/promotional materials.
