Job summary

ColonialWebb is seeking a Welding Mechanic to lay out, fabricate, assemble, install and weld piping and systems for industrial processing. The role reports to the trade Supervisor and sits within a full-service MEP contractor known for over 50 years of experience and a strong culture focused on people.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of BOCA and OSHA safety regulations.
• Ability to obtain AWS 6G certification.
• Ability to pass ColonialWebb weld test.
• Ability to work from drawings, submittals and specifications.
• Ability to communicate effectively with teammates in other trades.
• Ability to work independently.
• Willingness to coach apprentices and helpers.

Responsibilities

• Select type and size of pipe and materials per job specs.
• Cut pipe and thread pipe using appropriate tools.
• Assemble and install metal and nonmetal pipe and fittings.
• Join piping by welding, grooved, threaded, soldered, brazed or fused methods.
• Weld pipes/metals using electric, gas, arc, MIG and TIG.
• Test piping systems for leaks and monitor gauges.
• Instruct apprentices/helpers to work safely and efficiently.
• Secure pipes to structure with clamps, brackets and hangers.
• Weld holding fixtures to structural steel as needed.
• Determine equipment and welding method using metallurgy and geometry knowledge.
