Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in piping, pipefitting, or mechanical construction.
• 4+ years of supervisory or superintendent experience on commercial projects.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical piping systems (hydronic, chilled water, steam, medical gas, etc.).
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specs, and project documents.

Position Summary

Upchurch is seeking an experienced Piping Superintendent to lead and oversee all piping operations on commercial mechanical construction projects. This role is responsible for managing field crews, coordinating installation activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications, maintaining a safe work environment, and driving projects to successful completion. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader with extensive piping experience, strong technical knowledge, and a proven ability to manage large‑scale commercial construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate all piping installation activities on commercial construction projects.

• Lead field crews, foremen, and subcontractors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project schedules.

• Interpret piping blueprints, specifications, shop drawings, and project documents to ensure proper installation and system performance.

• Develop work plans, sequencing, and manpower strategies to maximize productivity and meet project milestones.

• Monitor work in progress and completed installations to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and company expectations.

• Ensure proper availability of plans, materials, tools, equipment, and manpower to support project execution.

• Coordinate material procurement and delivery schedules with project teams and vendors.

• Collaborate with Project Managers, General Contractors, vendors, and other trades to maintain workflow and resolve field conflicts.

• Conduct regular site inspections to verify quality, safety, and code compliance.

• Lead daily safety meetings and support Upchurch's safety culture by enforcing all safety policies and procedures.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while promoting housekeeping standards across all job sites.

• Track labor productivity, material usage, and project performance to help control costs and maintain schedules.

• Resolve field issues quickly and effectively while minimizing project disruptions.

• Provide leadership, training, mentorship, and performance oversight to piping personnel.

• Communicate project progress, delays, manpower needs, and emerging issues to project leadership.

• Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, timekeeping, material tracking, and progress updates.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of experience in the piping, pipefitting, or mechanical construction trade.

• Minimum 4 years of supervisory or superintendent experience on commercial mechanical construction projects.

• Proven experience managing commercial piping installations from project start-up through completion.

• Strong knowledge of mechanical piping systems, including hydronic, chilled water, heating water, steam, process piping, domestic water, sanitary waste, and medical gas systems.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, schedules, and technical documents.

• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, and coordination with multiple trades.

• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

• Proven ability to supervise multiple foremen and large field labor forces.

• Strong problem-solving and decision‑making abilities in fast‑paced construction environments.

• Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and productivity.

• Proficiency with construction documentation, reporting, and project tracking.

• Valid driver's license required.
