Job summary

G-TECH Services LLC seeks an experienced Piping Designer in Houston to support industrial projects. You will leverage SmartPlant P&ID, SP3D, and MicroStation to develop piping designs and produce isometrics, layouts, and BOMs.

You will collaborate with engineers and construction teams, ensure code compliance (ASME/ANSI/API), and help resolve design and field issues throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical diploma in drafting/design or HS diploma with relevant experience.
• 3–5 years of piping design experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with SmartPlant P&ID.
• Proficiency with SmartPlant 3D (SP3D).
• Proficiency with MicroStation.
• Understanding of piping systems, materials, specifications, and fabrication methods.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs and engineering drawings.
• Familiarity with ASME, ANSI, API codes and standards.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Piping Designer to support industrial and petrochemical engineering projects. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with SmartPlant P&ID, SmartPlant 3D (SP3D), and MicroStation, along with a strong understanding of piping systems, layouts, and design practices.

This role will work closely with engineering, design, and construction teams to develop safe, efficient, constructible, and cost-effective piping designs.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and revise piping designs using MicroStation and SmartPlant 3D (SP3D).
• Create and update SmartPlant P&IDs and accurately interpret piping and process information.
• Prepare piping layouts, isometric drawings, bills of materials, and piping support details.
• Interpret P&IDs, piping specifications, engineering drawings, and design requirements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve piping design and modeling issues using MicroStation and SmartPlant P&ID.
• Coordinate with engineers and other designers to maintain design consistency and accuracy.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and project requirements.
• Participate in model reviews and provide input related to constructability and maintainability.
• Assist with resolving design challenges and field issues.

Required Qualifications

• Approximately 3–5 years of piping design experience preferred.
• Strong hands‑on experience with SmartPlant P&ID.
• Proficiency with SmartPlant 3D (SP3D).
• Proficiency with MicroStation.
• Strong understanding of piping systems, materials, specifications, and fabrication methods.
• Ability to accurately interpret P&IDs and engineering drawings.
• Familiarity with ASME, ANSI, API, and other applicable codes and standards.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Experience

• Petrochemical, chemical, refinery, or other industrial facility experience.
• Experience with laser scanning and point cloud integration.
• Knowledge of pipe stress analysis and piping support design.
• Understanding of construction practices and project lifecycle.
• Experience supporting field issue resolution and constructability reviews.

Work Schedule

• 40 hours per week.
• Monday–Thursday: 8 or 9 hours per day.
• Friday: Half day depending on hours worked; remote.
• PPE is not required unless visiting a site; PPE will be provided when required.

A hands‑on Piping Designer with strong SmartPlant P&ID, SP3D, and MicroStation experience who can independently troubleshoot design issues and support petrochemical/industrial piping projects.
