Job summary

The Bergaila Companies is seeking a Piping Designer III for Houston to lead detailed piping designs across energy and infrastructure projects. You will ensure technical precision, manage tag assignments, and coordinate with stakeholders from conception through construction.

As a senior designer, you will mentor junior staff, review schedules, and support procurement, QA/QC, and project controls to deliver high-impact outcomes on tight timelines.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of piping design experience in oil & gas, pipelines, or industrial facilities.
• Proficiency with CAD/CADD software for piping and instrumentation diagrams.
• Ability to assign and manage equipment tags, line numbers, and piping specifications.
• Strong communication and teamwork to liaise with clients, vendors and peers.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate project design and drafting to drive successful project outcomes.
• Assign equipment, instrument, valve tagging numbers, and piping line numbers to maintain accuracy.
• Resolve drawing development issues and update record drawings with drafting changes.
• Prepare PFDs, P&IDs, general layouts, plot plans, and lists for construction projects.
• Assist in developing project scopes and construction scopes of work.
• Participate in project meetings to understand client needs and provide technical input.
• Review man-hour estimates and schedules for efficiency and timely delivery.
• Coordinate distribution of design packages among stakeholders.
• Engage with vendors for material quotations and availability, perform take-offs.
• Generate material requisitions and maintain documentation.
• Develop and maintain company standard drawings and procedures.
• Collaborate with project managers, inspectors, contractors, and procurement teams.
• Provide mentorship to junior staff.

As a senior member of the design team, you'll lead the development of detailed piping designs, ensure technical precision, and facilitate seamless communication among stakeholders. What You'll Do:

• Facilitate project design and drafting to drive successful project outcomes.
• Assign equipment, instrument, valve tagging numbers, and piping line numbers to maintain accuracy and organization.
• Resolve drawing development issues and update record drawings with drafting changes.
• Prepare process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping & instrument diagrams (P&IDs), general equipment layouts, facility plot plans, and equipment/instrument lists for diverse construction projects.
• Assist in developing project scopes, engineering scopes, and construction scopes of work to support contract negotiations.
• Participate actively in project meetings to understand client needs, scope definitions, and provide technical input for optimal design solutions.
• Review man-hour estimates and work schedules, ensuring project efficiency and timely delivery.
• Coordinate distribution of design packages, fostering collaboration among stakeholders and facilitating information exchange.
• Engage with vendors for material quotations and availability, perform material take-offs, and develop material data sheets to ensure procurement readiness.
• Generate material requisitions and maintain comprehensive documentation throughout project development.
• Support the development and maintenance of company standard drawings and technical procedures, promoting best practices and cost efficiency.
• Collaborate with project managers, inspectors, contractors, and procurement teams to address design, material, and construction issues.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff, enhancing team capabilities and project quality.

Required Skills:

• Proven experience with piping design, drafting, and document development.
• Strong proficiency with CAD/CADD software related to piping and instrumentation diagrams.
• Ability to assign and manage equipment tags, line numbers, and piping specifications.
• Excellent problem-solving skills to resolve drawing development issues.
• Effective communication skills to liaise with vendors, team members, and clients.
• Knowledge of process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping & instrument diagrams (P&IDs), and general plant layouts.
• Ability to review and annotate technical drawings and construction documents.
• Familiarity with project scope development and document control processes.

Nice to Have Skills:

• Experience with project management and scheduling software.
• Knowledge of industry standards and codes related to piping and instrumentation.
• Prior experience working with specialty materials or in a highly regulated environment.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Minimum of 7 years of piping design experience, preferably within oil & gas, pipelines, or industrial facilities.
• Prior experience in a senior or lead piping designer role is highly advantageous.

Other Requirements:

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and coordinate across multiple departments.
• Occasional travel to project sites or vendor locations may be required.
• Familiarity with safety standards and procedures relevant to design and construction activities.
