Job summary

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. seeks a senior Piping Designer for our Building Mechanical team in Pittsburgh, PA. You will design and coordinate piping systems for state‑of‑the‑art industrial facilities, lead a design team, perform stress analyses, and collaborate across disciplines on projects that drive client success.

The role emphasizes field visits, adherence to codes, and a hybrid work model with 40% office/site time. A PE license and 8+ years in piping design are preferred.

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ experience in piping design for industrial and commercial facilities.

We're looking for a high-energy, Piping Designer to join our Building Mechanical team and help deliver solutions to our clients.The position would be based out of our Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania office.Our role provides you the opportunity to work on the design of state-of-the-art industrial facilities. You will be part of a team working on projects that make our clients successful today, while helping them develop and capitalize on emerging technologies. As a Piping Designer working at Jacobs, you will perform mechanical/piping engineering under the direction and supervision of a senior project manager, coordinate the design and drafting of piping discipline tasks for a given project, monitor the progress of the work and the performance of the design team, and meet with clients locally.

This role is a hybrid role where 40% of your time is expected to be in the office or at a job site.

Our Piping role and responsibilities include:

• Knowledge of procedures and technical concepts within the piping discipline and the ability to navigate and apply relevant codes to piping design projects.
• Generate piping design calculations including equipment sizing and pipe sizing calculations.
• Create P&ID’s and Block Flow Diagrams
• Perform equipment selections.
• Generate specifications for systems and equipment.
• Coordinate and collaborate with project team members, contractors, clients and other disciplines such as architectural, structural, electrical and process to develop designs.
• Perform static pipe stress analysis
• Checking drawings developed by project team members.
• Ability to lead a design team within the piping discipline and takes responsibility for their portion of the discipline's scope, schedule and budget.
• Ability to support work for/in other offices and other countries which may include travel.
• Ability to organize work and delegate work to others.
• Ability to work not only independently, but also as part of a design team consisting of local and remote team members.
• Experience checking and performing quality assurance reviews of drawings completed by junior engineers and designers.
• Ability to formulate design criteria to be used in the in the development of project design specifications and drawings.
• Ability to mentor junior staff.

Ideally, You’ll Also Have:

• Professional Engineering License.
• BS in Mechanical Engineering
• Software experience in Revit, Plant 3D, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and Pipe-FLO.

The base salary range for this position is $98,000.00 to $125,000.00; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
