Job summary

SSOE is seeking a mid-to-upper level Piping Designer with Chemical Process Piping experience for our growing office in Austin, TX. You will lead design efforts on multi-discipline projects, coordinate designers, and ensure high-quality piping drawings using CAD and BIM tools.

The role requires strong knowledge of AutoCAD Plant3D, Revit, Navisworks, and laser scanning, with at least 15 years of piping design experience. Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits accompany the position.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree required; Bachelor's degree desirable but not mandatory.
  • AutoCAD Plant3D and Revit proficiency.
  • At least 15 years of piping design experience.
  • Knowledge of process chemical, steam/condensate and utility piping system best practices.
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate within small teams.
  • Desire to lead, take on responsibility and communicate with others.
  • Knowledge of Navisworks and using laser scan data.
  • Salary range given: $95,000-$120,000/year depending on location, education, experience and related certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a design lead on single discipline or multi-discipline projects.
  • Coordinate and direct the work of designers and review portions of drawings.
  • Read P&IDs, extract data, and transfer to equipment and piping design using standard techniques.
  • Attend design progress meetings and present details.
  • Review shop drawings for quality and completeness.
  • Prepare construction packages, addendums and bulletins.
  • Initiate project change orders with the project manager.
  • Participate in construction meetings and provide support as needed.
  • Interact with external customers and contribute to cost estimates.
  • Possibly travel to job sites and multi-task across projects.
  • Communicate effectively with teams spread across offices.

Responsibilities

A Typical Day Might Include:

  • Work as a design lead either as part of a single discipline project or multi-discipline engineering project team
  • Coordinate and direct the work effort of designers on the same project with some responsibility for checking portions of the completed drawings
  • Ability to read P&IDs, pull the necessary data and transfer to equipment & piping design utilizing standard design techniques and use industry best practices
  • Attend and present design details/progress in both internal and external design team meetings
  • Review equipment shop drawings. Check to ensure quality accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare construction packages, addendums and bulletins.
  • Recognize and initiate project change orders to the project manager.
  • Attend construction meetings and provide construction support if requested.
  • Has some external customer contact.
  • May write portions of specifications and assist in preparing design and construction cost estimates.
  • May require travel to job site.
  • Efficiently multi-task between multiple projects
  • Good written and oral communication skills due to project teams potentially being spread around different offices
