Job summary

Huhtamaki in Waterville, ME seeks a skilled Piper AA to join our plant team. The role requires reading blueprints, fabricating piping, and ensuring safe operation of HVAC, water treatment, and related systems.

You will participate in shift planning and collaborate with supervision to meet production needs. The ideal candidate has a technical associate degree or 5 years of pipefitting experience, strong manual dexterity, and the ability to communicate effectively.

Qualifications

• Technical two-year associate degree and/or 5 years as pipefitter in an industrial facility.
• Manual dexterity skills.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Effective written and verbal communication.
• Satisfactory attendance and work record.
• Able to pass Huhtamaki hands-on pipefitter test.

Responsibilities

• Confers with supervisor at the start of each shift to determine work priorities.
• Receives instructions, blueprints, and work orders; develops procedures, material requirements, scaffolding, and equipment.
• Installs, bends, cuts, threads, welds, and fabricates piping to job specs.
• Inspects and maintains piping systems, heating, refrigeration, water treatment, sewer systems, burners, and heaters.
• Sets up and operates bending, threading, and cutoff equipment.
• Installs insulation and pipe coverings; disposes old coverings per waste procedures and EPA/OSHA.
• Performs hydraulic pressure tests of piping installations; checks controls, gauges, and valves.
• Notifies supervision of potentially dangerous piping systems and corrective actions.

Your opportunity

We're currently looking for a Piper AA at our Huhtamaki Plant in Waterville, Maine and you should be within reasonable commuting distance from here.

What you’ll be doing

Job Summary:

1. Confers with supervisor at the start of each shift to determine work priorities.
2. Receives instructions, blueprints, and work orders for the job. Develops working procedure for the job, material requirements, scaffolding and other equipment required. Calculates dimensions and bends required for piping.
3. Installs, bends, cuts, threads, welds, and cuts off piping and shapes and fabricates pipe to the particular requirements for the job.
4. Inspects and maintains facility piping systems, heating, refrigeration and air conditioning systems, water treatment and sewer systems, burners and heaters.
5. Sets up and operates various bending, threading, and cutoff equipment.
6. Installs various types of insulation and pipe covering; removes and disposes old coverings in line with company hazardous waste procedures and EPA and OSHA requirements.
7. Makes hydraulic pressure test of piping installations. Checks and adjusts controls, gauges, and valves to achieve control of flow of pressure.
8. Notifies Supervision of potentially dangerous piping systems and corrective actions taken or documented.

What you’ll bring to the role

Qualifications:

1. Technical 2-year associates degree and/or 5 years as a pipefitter in an industrial facility.

3. Ability to read and interpret blue prints
4. Ability to effectively communicate with written and verbal communications
5. Satisfactory work records including attendance
6. Ability to pass Huhtamaki hands-on pipefitter test.

Physical Requirements

1. Visual acuity (corrected) to read directions and prints.
2. Manual dexterity.
3. Physical ability to do work requiring frequent stooping, standing, squatting, bending, crawling, twisting and lifting of 50 pounds.
