The Pipeline Controller Operator position will be responsible for operating and monitoring Sables-owned/operated gas and/or hazardous liquid pipelines. This individual will ensure safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible operations in compliance with DOT/PHMSA 49 CFR 192 and/or 195 regulations and other applicable federal, state, or local regulations. This role involves monitoring and controlling the flow and pressure of substances through pipelines, responding to alarms and emergencies, and ensuring compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Continuously monitor pipeline systems using SCADA and other control systems to manage pressure, flow, gravity, tank levels, and other operating parameters for safe and efficient pipeline operations.
  • Analyze sensor data to ensure optimal flow and pressure levels.
  • Accurately monitor control valve and pump statuses from the Pipeline Control Center.
  • Monitor and respond promptly to alarms related to normal, abnormal, or emergency conditions, including irregularities, leaks, ruptures, and other pipeline incidents.
  • Execute appropriate actions quickly to prevent emergencies in response to alarms.
  • Monitor leak detection systems and respond to potential leak alarms.
  • Adjust valves, pumps, and compressors to regulate pipeline flow and pressure.
  • Implement start-up, shutdown, and maintenance procedures as needed.
  • Coordinate with field personnel and stakeholders during normal operations and emergencies.
  • Ensure smooth shift turnovers with clear verbal and written communication and document handoff per CRM guidelines.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, as well as the safety of company assets, employees, and the public.
  • Track and report regulatory and company-required operating data, and prepare regular reports on pipeline performance and incidents.
  • Participate in regular safety drills and training sessions.
  • Implement emergency response plans and coordinate with emergency services when necessary.
  • Accurately document and report incidents in a timely manner.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues promptly, coordinating with maintenance teams for necessary repairs and upgrades.
  • Maintain accurate records of pipeline operations, including flow rates, pressures, and maintenance activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in pipeline operations or a related field.
  • Proficiency in using SCADA and other pipeline control systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle emergencies calmly and effectively.
  • Must have mathematical skills pursuant to high levels of accuracy.
  • Must be able to effectively interface with a wide variety of people, both internal and external to the company, and communicate effectively through both written and verbal delivery.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills are required.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Pipeline Control Certification) are a plus.
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including remote locations and adverse weather.
  • This position typically operates in a control room environment but may require field visits.
  • Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required.
PAY INFORMATION:
  • Hourly Pay Range: $46.00 to $58.00
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The position requires manual dexterity to handle documents and operate office equipment such as fax machines, copiers, printers, shredders, and computers. Lifting up to 20 lbs. Also required is performing repetitive motions and extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking for varying lengths of time. The position requires interacting and communicating professionally with others via speaking, hearing, and writing; learning new tasks, processes, and concepts; thinking to solve problems; concentrating on required tasks; distinguishing color and depth perception; and reading data, figures, electronic and hard copy documents.
