Job summary

Knife River is seeking a Pipe Layer to align, install, and seal pipe systems, following blueprints and supervisors’ directions. The role requires physical work in diverse weather and terrain, with emphasis on safety and quality workmanship.

Responsibilities include trenching, leveling, and coordinating layouts, plus operating welding equipment and related tools. Driver's license preferred; CDL a bonus, with pre-employment screening required.

Qualifications

• Must pass a pre‑employment drug screening and background check.

Responsibilities

• Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing.
• Check slopes for conformance to requirements using levels or lasers.
• Connect pipe pieces and seal joints with welding equipment, cement, or glue.
• Cover pipes with earth or other materials.
• Cut pipes to required lengths.
• Dig trenches to required depths by hand or using trenching tools.
• Grade and level trench bases using tamping machines and hand tools.
• Install and repair water, stormwater & sewer structures and pipe systems.
• Lay out pipe routes following written instructions or blueprints and coordinate layouts with supervisors.
• Work safely and prevent unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
• Maintain physical activity including standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, walking on uneven ground, shoveling, and raking.
• Perform other duties as directed by supervisor
