Position Summary
PIPEFITTER/WELDER
Facilities Management
Full Time
Starting Wage: $23.25 per hour/ $25.67 after successful completion of probationary period
Primary Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints and schematics
- Determine required tools, materials and welding methods
- Assemble, install and repair pipe components and systems according to specifications
- Inspect and maintain supplies, materials, equipment, and tools
- Prepare working materials by clamping, cutting or applying chemical solutions to piping
- Examine completed welds to ensure they are free of defects, smooth and functional
- Observe safety regulations
- Comply with AWS, API, ANSI, and/or ASME codes and standards
- Participate in training/schooling to continually improve abilities relative to the position
- Assist in the upkeep and appearance of the boiler plant and campus
- Maintain a valid driver's license
- Maintain good communication skills
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Possess a current driver's license
- Must live within 30 minutes travel time from the University
- Knowledge and experience with welding equipment and processes including MIG, TIG, Stick Welding for steel, stainless and aluminum metals
- Knowledge of welding codes and standards as published by AWS, API, ANSI, or ASME
- Ability to read and work from prints, schematics, and from verbal and written instructions
- Strong electrical/mechanical ability
- Ability to troubleshoot and strong attention to detail
- Ability to operate various pieces of testing equipment (volt/ohm meters, pressure testing instruments, etc.) and skilled in the proper use of hand and power tools
- Ability to learn control systems, electrical systems and switchgears
- Experience with steam boiler systems in an educational, commercial or industrial setting
- Ability to work and complete assignments with minimal supervision
- Ability to perform heavy work and lift up to 100lbs. and to work at heights up to 150ft. that exist on campus with or without accommodations
- Ability to work in close or confined spaces for extended periods of time with or without accommodation
- Good communication skills
- Willing to participate in training/schooling to continually improve abilities relative to the position
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service
