Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Pipefitter at the San Diego VA Medical Center to install, repair, and maintain piping systems from high to low pressure steam.

The role requires reading blueprints, performing welding, and conducting preventive maintenance in a healthcare environment. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 5:00am–1:30pm PST, with possible exposure to industrial hazards and the need to use PPE including respirators.

Qualifications

  • Experience demonstrating ability to perform pipefitting tasks as described.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • Willingness to work in varied indoor/outdoor environments with PPE.

Responsibilities

  • Layout pipe, thread, rough-in and finish bathroom and kitchen areas.
  • Conduct welding repairs using oxygen-acetylene and arc welding.
  • Inspect and repair plumbing fixtures, steam and heating systems, waste lines, and related equipment.
  • Reads blueprints and manufacturers' specifications for installation and repair.
  • Performs safety and preventive maintenance inspections under VA regulations.
  • Interprets building plans to layout angles, arcs, and circles.
  • Uses measuring tools like sliding squares, tapes, chalk lines.
  • Work schedule: Monday-Friday 5:00am-1:30pm PST.
  • May require respirator training and PPE usage.
