Job Description

Position Summary

As an Industrial Pipefitter (Sketcher), the individual will need sketching experience to create piping sketches on paper. Ability to transfer drawings to Adobe is a plus. Must be able to take measurements and sketch drawings by hand and on a computer. Must have five (5) years of pipe fabrication experience. Will also need experience to assemble, layout, install, and maintain pipe systems on steam, fluid, or gas systems. The pipe systems may include but are not limited to pipe, flanges, supports, valves, gauges, hangars, and angles. Pipefitters (Sketcher) may work in all parts of the construction or maintenance site including in buildings, outside, and inside structures, i.e., tanks or boilers. The work may also include working in underground (excavations) areas and working at heights of up to 300 ft. Must be comfortable walking, climbing, and working at heights.


Qualification Highlights
  • Must have 5+ years working as an Industrial Pipefitter with Sketching experience.
  • Must be able to read prints and illustrate thorough knowledge of pipefitting procedures and skills.
  • Must have good experience with communicating through emails and verbally.
  • Must have experience on an industrial construction project.

Position Responsibilities
  • Ability to visualize piping and sketch drawings accordingly.
  • Read blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work: locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required.
  • Identify all tools required for tasks.
  • Identify safety risks and the precautions required to eliminate those risks.
  • Prepare, fabricate, install, and fit pipe to specifications.
  • Install valves, hangars, supports, flanges inside piping systems according to plans and applicable specifications.
  • Perform tests to ensure the quality of the pipe and piping systems.
  • Hoist loads using slings, chains, shackles, hooks, cables, and other rigging equipment.

Reports to Position
  • This position does not have any direct reports; however, the position will work closely with and oversee helpers and laborers occasionally. The position will hold a positional and expertise authority over helper and laborer positions.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated industrial construction/maintenance history experience.
  • Ability to read prints and construction drawings.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and manufacturers' instructions.
  • Knowledge of pipefitting processes for industrial piping and boiler components for a combined-cycle power plant.
  • 5+ years' experience with sketching and pipefitting processes.
  • Good problem-solving abilities.
  • Good manual dexterity and aptitude.
  • Good reading comprehension.
  • Ability to work with others as a team player.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication skills with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Commitment to Zachry values and safety rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Zachry ROF'd employee.
  • Former Zachry Employee.
  • NCCER Certification as an Industrial Pipe Fitter.
  • Formal/technical education.

Physical Requirements
  • Standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting for extended periods.
  • Talking and hearing to communicate.
  • Good dexterity with hands and fingers for precision adjustments.
  • Using arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
  • May lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional work at heights, climbing ladders and working off platforms up to 300' with proper fall protection.
  • Visual focus, color perception, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for long hours.
  • Wearing PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, ear protection, masks, vests, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
