Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. Newport News Shipbuilding division is seeking a pipefitter to install and maintain piping systems on the shipyard’s utility infrastructure. Work may involve steam, compressed air, water, gases and sewer systems across piers, shops and buildings.

Emphasis on safety and quality workmanship. Candidate must meet physical requirements, including climbing, lifting 40 lbs, and passing a respirator test.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work at extreme heights or in small spaces.
• Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb.
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs and pass a respirator fit test.
• Must be able to work shift as production needs.

Responsibilities

• Layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of piping systems.
• Maintenance of piping systems, appurtenances and equipment for steam, hot water, heating and cooling.
• Read and follow building plans or working drawings to install piping in various locations.
• Prioritize safety and quality workmanship on site.
