Job summary

Cherokee Millwright is seeking a Multi-Craft Pipefitter in the Operations department. This role focuses on laying out, assembling, installing and maintaining pipe systems and supports for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, and industrial production.

The position requires cross-training across trades such as pipefitting, welding, sheet metal, and civil work. Strong reading of specifications and problem-solving in standard conditions are essential for success.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; or two years related experience and/or training.
• Cross-trained in millwrighting, pipefitting, welding, sheet metal, civil, etc.
• Ability to read and interpret specifications and plans.

Responsibilities

• Cut, thread and hammer pipe to specifications using tools such as saws and pipe threaders.
• Assemble and secure pipes and fittings by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering and threading joints.
• Attach pipes to walls and fixtures using brackets and welding equipment.
• Inspect and test installed systems and pipelines with gauges and hydrostatic testing.
• Plan pipe system layout and installation according to specifications.
• Additional skills in other crafts may be required to meet customer needs.
• Duties may include millwright, pipefitting, welding, sheet metal, mechanical and rigging projects.

Summary: At Cherokee Millwright, we are a multi-craft company that focuses on the needs of our customers by providing multi-trades personnel to meet the customer’s unique job requests. Therefore, all field employees will be cross-trained in various trades such as millwrighting, pipefitting, welding, sheet metal, civil, etc. The focus of this position will be in lay out, assemble, install and maintain pipe systems, pipe supports and related equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, compressed air and industrial production and processing systems. However, it will not be entirely set to this specific skillset.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Cut, thread and hammer pipe to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders and benders.
• Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings and related equipment, according to specifications, by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering and threading joints.
• Attach pipes to walls, structures and fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clams, tools or welding equipment.
• Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
• Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading.
• Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to specifications.
• Additional skills in other crafts will be necessary to meet our customers need and will be expected in this role.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
