Job summary

General Motors in Kansas City is seeking qualified Mechanical Journeypersons (Pipefitters) to work on industrial machinery and piping systems. You will read blueprints, install, maintain, and repair mechanical and hydraulic components, and operate CNC tools as part of a safety-focused team.

Eligibility requires at least six years in a mechanical trade or a related DOL certificate, willingness to work varied shifts, and successful completion of GM hiring requirements.

Qualifications

• At least six years of related experience in a Mechanical trade (millwright, pipefitter, toolmaker, machine repair) or a U.S. Department of Labor Certificate of Completion in a Mechanical trade.
• Must be able to satisfactorily complete GM hiring process requirements including assessments, drug testing, and background check.
• At least 18 years of age; eligible to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Follow established safety procedures according to OSHA standards and company procedures.
• Maintain, dismantle, repair, and replace mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial machinery such as shafting, motors, generators, air compressors, engines, pumps, cylinders, gears, valves.
• Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair piping systems.
• Use hand or power tools for measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, bending, soldering, assembling, joining, and installing pipes, valves, and fittings.
• Read and interpret blueprints for the mechanical operation and assembly of conveyors, material handling systems, robots, and other automation.
• Operate mobile equipment (e.g. forklifts, vertical lifts, cranes).
• Set up and operate CNC machines to cut, bore, grind parts to dimensions and finishes.
• Fabricate punches, tools, steel rule tools and j-sets to exact specifications.
• Plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools or assemblies using blueprints or models.
• Determine quality of finished products by verifying dimensions, alignment, and clearances using calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.
