Job description


GENERAL FUNCTION: The pipefitter lays out, installs and maintains vessels' piping systems, such as heat and power, hot water, hydraulic, air pressure and oil lines.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities:

  • Follows blueprints and uses hand tools and shop machines.
  • Cuts and bores holes in bulkheads and decks for installation of pipes.
  • Cuts and threads pipe and pipefittings.
  • Connects pipes to fixtures and test systems for leaks, ensuring that the system meets specifications.
  • Inspects work for compliance with blueprints, drawings and or specifications.
  • Tasks employees with daily assignments by use of task sheets.
  • Monitors job activity of employees, answers question, provides guidance, and solves problems.
  • Selects, supervises, and instructs employees.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Demonstrated leadership skills. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and/or work objectives. Ability to effectively plan work procedures, equipment, material, and manpower needs. Ability to effectively build and lead a productive work group and to perform as a member of supervisory team. Ability to effectively communicate.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: Minimum of three (3) years' experience, as a pipefitter is preferred, capable of operating a cutting torch and tack welding. High School Diploma or General Education Degree required.
