Leadman - Provides leadership, instruction, and guidance to other craft workers in a work crew, assisting the Foreman while working as a journeyman.
Summary
Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and maintains piping systems, pipe supports, fixtures, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and production and processing systems.
Responsibilities
- Selects type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to job specifications.
- Inspects worksite to identify obstructions.
- Plans installation sequence to avoid obstructions and coordinate with other workers.
- Cuts pipe using appropriate tools like hacksaw, pipe cutter, or cutting torch.
- Threads pipe with threading machine.
- Bends pipe manually or with bending tools/machines.
- Mounts pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceilings.
- Assembles and installs pipes and fittings using threaded, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints.
- Secures pipes to structures with brackets, clamps, and hangers.
- Installs and maintains refrigeration and air conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, controls, and piping.
- Tests piping systems for leaks by pressure testing and observing gauges.
- Welds pipe supports to structural steel as needed.
- May observe machinery for malfunctions and operate machinery for testing repairs.
- Loads, transports, and unloads materials, tools, and equipment.
- Assists in lifting and positioning materials during installation.
- Performs minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
- Follows safety and project rules, including respiratory protection when required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: May require a high school diploma or equivalent, with relevant experience. Knowledge of industry practices and reliance on instructions and guidelines. Typically supervised, with limited independent judgment.
Physical Requirements
- Standing 60%, walking 20%, sitting 20%.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50-70 lbs.
- Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering as indicated.
