Description

The Journeyman role typically requires 3 or more years of documented field experience in the chosen craft discipline. The candidate should be able to read and interpret instructions, document work, plan, and perform activities independently. Responsibilities include laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping systems, pipe supports, fixtures, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for various systems such as steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and production and processing systems.

Responsibilities

1. Selects type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment according to job specifications.
2. Inspects worksite for obstructions and plans installation sequence accordingly.
3. Uses various tools to cut, thread, bend, and mount pipes and pipe supports.
4. Assembles and installs pipes and fittings using appropriate joints and tools.
5. Secures pipes to structures and installs refrigeration and air conditioning systems, including controls and piping.
6. Tests piping systems for leaks and welds pipe supports to steel members.
7. May observe machinery to detect malfunctions and operate machinery for verification.
8. Loads, transports, and unloads materials, tools, and equipment.
9. Assists in lifting, positioning, and securing materials during installation.
10. Performs minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
11. Observes safety and project rules, including respiratory protection if required.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Work within precise standards of accuracy and make decisions based on measurable criteria.
• Apply shop mathematics and plan work with proper tools.
• Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
• Work at heights and compare differences in size, shape, and form of objects.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience.
• Knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in the field.
• Ability to follow instructions and guidelines, work under supervision, and report to a supervisor or manager.

Physical Requirements

• Stand 60%, walk 20%, sit 20%.
• Lifting up to 50 lbs, carrying, pushing, and pulling specified weights.
• Climbing and balancing occasionally, and stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and fingering with varying frequencies.
