Facilities & Services

Visits job sites to ensure satisfactory work quality and completion requirements are being met.
  • Maintains records of work completed, material purchasing, overtime lists, and training records. Verifies and approves mobile timekeeping and/or timecards.
  • Participates in schedule review meetings with the work management center. Participates in multi-craft work order review meetings with shop forepersons and building maintenance supervision.
  • Responsible for tools, equipment, and materials assigned for use in the pipefitter shop. Inventories tools and equipment.
  • The foreperson must be available to provide leadership for emergency response during off normal working hours to handle problems relating to the building heating, hydronic, and piping needs.
  • Makes recommendations for safety initiatives and programs, hiring and discipline, and addresses performance issues. Responsible for safety and policy enforcement.
  • Performs pipefitter work as needed or assigned.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Additional Physical Demands1. Must be able to walk, climb, bend, and crawl to access any work area such as attics, crawl spaces, false floors, ceilings, and scaffolding.

  • Must be able to work in temperature extremes ranging from freezing weather to steam tunnels.
  • Must be able to work at heights to inspect equipment located on platforms or hung above tall ceilings such as piping and valves from AHU units.
  • Must be able to work amid hazards of work sites such as dust, noise, and in areas such as coal fired power plants, animal rooms, and laboratories.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certificate of completion of Pipetrade apprenticeship under a registered Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training program AND four (4) years (48 months) of applicable experience.

OR

  • Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman Pipefitter or other Pipetrade classification with a minimum of nine (9) years (108 months) of actual work in the trade, which may have included apprenticeship and/or applicable vocational training. The trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by Pipefitters, Pipefitter Welders, Refrigeration Mechanics, Temperature Control Mechanics, Sprinkler Fitters, and/or Oil Burner Mechanics.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • 1. Ability to effectively supervise others (plan, organize, prioritize, assign, and follow up on assignments).
  • 2. Thorough knowledge of the use of pipefitter tools and equipment.
  • 3. Thorough knowledge of and skills regarding pipefitter heating systems.
  • 4. Ability to give directions both orally and in written form that are concise and understandable.
  • 5. Thorough knowledge of safety procedures.
  • 6. Must possess a current valid driver's license.
  • 7. Ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches, and blueprints.
  • 8. Thorough knowledge and understanding of all pipefitter work and university facilities standards.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 1828 - Pipefitter (Refrigeration Mechanic) Foreman position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 8/4/2025. Starting salary is $60.12/hour
