Job summary

Sundt Inc. is seeking a skilled pipe welder to plan, lay out, and execute welding and fabrication tasks in accordance with plans, codes, and industry standards. You’ll work with other trades as needed and follow supervision guidance to ensure quality and safety.

The role requires reading drawings, isometrics, and P&IDs, plus passing weld tests. Strong communication and math skills are essential for success in this fast-paced construction environment.

Qualifications

• Three to six+ years in pipefitting and welding in industrial/construction settings.
• Ability to read drawings, isometrics, P&IDs, specs and safety standards.
• Must pass weld tests relevant to the work.
• Verbal and written communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Plan and perform pipe welding and fabrication per plans and codes.
• Maintain positive crew relationships and safety standards.
• Ensure materials, tools, and information are available for work.
• Look for improvements and be willing to learn from others.
• Mentor others and share knowledge as needed.
• Demonstrate high proficiency in trade mathematics.
• Inspect subordinates’ work for accuracy and compliance, taking corrective action.

• High proficiency in all related trade mathematics.
• Inspect subordinates work, ensure accuracy and compliance with plans and specifications, explain deficiencies, and take any necessary corrective action.
• Eliminate WASTE such as waiting, rework, transporting, material storage and time.

Minimum Job Requirements

• Must have a minimum of three years’ (level I), four years’ (level II), five years’ (level III) and six plus years’ (level Sr.) experience in the industrial/commercial construction industry and have an in-depth understanding of the pipefitter trade.
• Must be able to read and understand drawings, isometrics, P&ID’s, specifications, safety and quality standards, and effectively utilize all trade tools and equipment relevant to the work.
• Must pass required weld test(s) for the work being performed.
• Possess effective verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements

• Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
• Will climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
• Will lift, push, or pull objects up to 50lbs. on an occasional basis
• Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis
• Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures
• May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis
• May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basisAbility to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.)
• Move in and around confined, cluttered and uneven areas.
• May use telephone, computer system, email, or other electronic devices on a limited basis to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors
