Job summary

The Shaw Group is seeking a skilled Shop Pipe Fabricator for project-based work at our facility. The role requires laying out, positioning, aligning and assembling fabricated metal parts in shop settings, with emphasis on blueprint interpretation and precise measurements.

Candidates must have at least five years of field experience in the craft and can read and interpret engineering documents to plan activities independently.

Qualifications

• Must pass a pipe fabrication test with 70% or more.
• Minimum 5 years of documented field experience in the craft.
• Ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation; plan and perform work independently.

Responsibilities

• Lays out, positions, aligns and fits together fabricated parts per blueprint and layout specifications.
• Plan sequence of operation with geometry, heat effects, weld shrinkage, and thickness of metal.
• Set up face blocks, jigs and fixtures.
• Locate and mark centerlines and reference points and transfer to work piece.

Job Overview:

This is a project-based position. The Shop Pipe Fabricator lays out, positions, aligns and fits together fabricated parts.At least5 years of documented field experience in chosen craft discipline and have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation and plan and perform work activities alone.Must have Tier 1 Shop Fabrication Experience.

This position does not offer Per Diem.

Basic Qualifications:

Must successfully pass the written Pipe Fabrication test and spool reading assessment.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

• Lays out, positions, aligns and fits together fabricated parts of metal products in shop according to blueprint and layout specifications, preparatory to welding or riveting
• Plans sequence of operation, applying knowledge of geometry, effects of heat, and allowance for weld shrinkage,machiningand thickness of metal
• Sets up face block,jigsand fixtures
• Locates and marks centerlines and reference points onto floor or face block and transposes them to work piece, using tape, chains, plumb bob, and squares
• Moves parts into position, manually or by hoist or crane
• Removes high spots and cuts bevels, using hand files, portablegrindersand cutting torch. Straightens warped or bent parts
• Positions or tightens braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, or bolt straps or bolt parts in positions for welding or riveting
• Responsible forobservingandcomplying withall safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment
• Performs other duties and activities asrequired
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawing instructions and documents, plan and perform work activities independently
• Ability to apply shop mathematics to solve problems
• Can plan work and select proper tools
• Has knowledge ofcommonly-usedconcepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field
• Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
• Works under minimum supervision. Typically reports to a supervisor
