Job summary

The Shaw Group is seeking an experienced Pipe Fabricator for a project-based role in Louisiana. The candidate will lay out, align, and fit metal parts in the shop, reading drawings and following layout specifications. Strong independent work ethic and at least 5 years of field experience are required.

Responsibilities include planning operations, setting up fixtures, reading drawings, and ensuring safety and compliance on site. This role offers day and night shifts with a 10% night differential.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of documented field experience in chosen craft discipline.
• Ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation and plan and perform work activities alone.
• Tier 1 Shop Fabrication Experience required.

Responsibilities

• Lays out, positions, aligns and fits fabric parts per blueprint before welding or riveting.
• Plan operation sequence using geometry, heat effects and weld shrinkage considerations.
• Set up face blocks, jigs and fixtures.
• Mark centerlines and reference points on floor or block and transfer to work piece.
• Move parts into position manually or with hoist/crane.
• Remove high spots and bevels using files, grinders and cutting torch.
• Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes or straps for welding/riveting.
• Observe safety and project rules; wear PPE.
• Perform other duties as required.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings; plan work independently.
• Apply shop mathematics to solve problems.
• Plan work and select proper tools.

This is a project-based position. The Shop Pipe Fabricator lays out, positions, aligns and fits together fabricated parts. At least 5 years of documented field experience in chosen craft discipline and have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation and plan and perform work activities alone. Must have Tier 1 Shop Fabrication Experience.

Basic Qualifications:

Must successfully pass the written Pipe Fabrication test and spool reading assessment.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

• Lays out, positions, aligns and fits together fabricated parts of metal products in shop according to blueprint and layout specifications, preparatory to welding or riveting
• Plans sequence of operation, applying knowledge of geometry, effects of heat, and allowance for weld shrinkage, machining and thickness of metal
• Sets up face block, jigs and fixtures
• Locates and marks centerlines and reference points onto floor or face block and transposes them to work piece, using tape, chains, plumb bob, and squares
• Moves parts into position, manually or by hoist or crane
• Removes high spots and cuts bevels, using hand files, portable grinders and cutting torch. Straightens warped or bent parts
• Positions or tightens braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, or bolt straps or bolt parts in positions for welding or riveting
• Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment
• Performs other duties and activities as required
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawing instructions and documents, plan and perform work activities independently
• Ability to apply shop mathematics to solve problems
• Can plan work and select proper tools
• Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field
• Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
• Works under minimum supervision. Typically reports to a supervisor.
