Job description

This position is located in the Plumbing Shop of the Facilities and Engineering Service at the Wilmington VA Medical Center and reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor. The Pipefitter works from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and layout the routing, pitch, elevation, pressure reduction, expansion, and operation of various piping systems and equipment.

Experience: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to demonstrate your ability to perform the duties of this position. Evidence must be supported by detailed descriptions on your resume. Applicants will be rated according to the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Screen-out Element: Your qualifications will be initially evaluated against the prescribed screen-out element, typically question 1 in the online questionnaire. Those meeting at least the minimum requirements proceed for further rating; others are eliminated. The remaining applicants are rated against additional job elements:

Experience includes paid, unpaid, and volunteer work (e.g., through the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps). Volunteer work can build critical skills and provide valuable training. All qualifying experience will be credited.
